Went to many of the ARTGO and ASA shows in the Ind./Ill./Mich area back in those days....

 

Blue Island Raceway....nearly flat as a pancake....LESS than a 1/4 mile really... as I recall they called it 3/16....home of bump and run racing....a true BULLRING....if you were too slow, you got moved....and freight-trained ....was one of Chicagoland's original tracks built in the 30's....was there one night a guy climbed the wall off of turn 4 and got hit by another car sending him into the light pole, breaking the power line, killing all the lights....they gave everyone two free draft beers before finally calling it a night and giving us rain-checks....

 

Sadly at the turn of the century the track succumbed to city expansion....My dad, who still lives up north, sent me an article from the Chicago paper on the old area tracks that are now gone....of the 14 listed I only went to two that were still open in my days(late 70's to mid 80's).....Raceway Park and Santa Fe Speedway....
