IHRA announces 2013 Summit Pro-Am schedule

Road to Tournament of Champions goes through Pro-Am Tour

NORWALK, Ohio (November 30, 2012) – It is the very backbone of the International Hot Rod Association and in 2013 the racers of the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL will be featured more prominently than ever before with increased competition and more prestige for winning on the Pro-Am level.

Beginning this coming season the IHRA and Summit Racing Equipment are adding more exclusivity to the program by making the Pro-Am Tour the only path through which to earn a berth in the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL. Like last year the top three points finishers in each division will move on to the championships tournament, but this year the Pro-Am top three will be the only way to qualify for the World Finals.

In other words beginning in 2013 everything goes through the Summit Pro-Am Tour.

The 2013 Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL will feature 38 races in 11 states and three Canadian provinces in six divisions. Each race weekend will include two points paying races with the exception of Division 9 which features four single races and one double race weekend. Two of the weekends will serve as Wild Card races that are open to all competitors and will count as an in-division claim for everyone in attendance.

Six of the events will be run in conjunction with Nitro Jam with Pro-Am competition throughout the day and Nitro Jam competition during the evening hours. Those racers lucky enough to go deep in competition at Nitro Jam events on Saturday night will also run as part of the show in front of the Nitro Jam audience. Those events include Pittsburgh, Bradenton, Grand Bend, Martin, San Antonio and Edmonton.

Beginning in Division 1 Patriots stops will include Richmond Dragway the weekend of April 26-28, Pittsburgh Raceway Park the weekend of May 31-June 2 and Maryland International Raceway the weekend of July 12-14.

In Division 2 Heat Wave the series will include stops at Immokalee Regional Raceway to open the year February 1-3, Bradenton Motorsports Park the weekend of April 19-21, Carolina Dragway the weekend of June 7-9 and Darlington Dragway the weekend of August 30-September 1. The Immokalee weekend will count as an in-division Wild Card open to all racers.

In Division 3 North Stars racers will compete at London Dragway the weekend of June 28-30, Grand Bend Motorplex the weekend of July 19-21 and U.S. 131 Motorsports Park the weekend of August 9-11.

In the ultra-competitive Division 4 Renegades the division will feature stops at State Capitol Raceway the weekend of March 8-10, San Antonio Raceway the weekend of April 5-7, Dallas Raceway the weekend of May 17-19 and Memphis International Raceway the weekend of June 14-16. The Memphis weekend will count as an in-division Wild Card open to all racers.

In the Division 6 Border Bandits competitors will travel to Eagle Motorplex the weekend of May 17-19 and Castrol Raceway the weekend of July 5-7.

Finally in the Raiders Division racers will compete in four single events and one double weekend to close the year. The Division 9 schedule includes stops at Piedmont Dragway the weekend of March 22-24, Dunn-Benson Dragstrip the weekend of April 5-7, Rockingham Dragway the weekend of May 3-5, Mooresville Dragway the weekend of May 31-June 2 and the double race weekend at Farmington Dragway the weekend of August 9-11.
