Murray Gets Main Win

In the first of two IMCA modified 20 lap mains to set the outside row for Saturdays big finale was led to green by former National Champion, Henry Witt and Reese Coffee. On the first try Brian Efkamp spun coming to green with Tim Murty get caught up. On the next try, Efkamp and Murty tangled again, this time collecting Darin Toot, Johnny Saathoff and Josh McGaha. The third time was a charm as Witt got out front as green flew. Jerry Hoffman and Darren Ackerman were side by side for second during lap 1, with Hoffman coming out ahead.

Hoffman then dove inside Witt on the front stretch with the duo wheel to wheel through turns 1-2. Hoffman came out of turn with the lead on lap 4. By lap 5 National points leader, David Murray had made his way up to fourth from his last row start. Ackerman was trying to get inside Witt for second on lap 6, with Murray sneeking a peek between both.

Murray bon the high side sailed by both Ackerman and Witt on lap to grab second. At the crossed flags Hoffman held a good lead over Murray, Witt, Ackerman and Mike Hejna. Ackerman was challenging Witt for third on lap 11, while Hejna and Coffee closed in. Coffee now using the high side grabbed spots from Hejna and Ackerman, as the battle for the final transfer spot raged on.

Coffee then shot by Witt, bringing Ackerman along to fourth. Witt would lose his chance at a transfer spot on lap 14 when he pulled off with a flat from fifth. Murray had closed slightly on Hoffman with five to go, but was nowhere within challenging distance. The focus now shifted to battle for the fourth and final spot, between Jordy Nelson, Andy Claiborne and Shane Clement. At the checkers it would be Hoffman by a comfortable distance over Murray, with Nelson getting the last transfer spot. Unfortunately Hoffman fail in the tent of doom as he was DQed, handing the win to Murray
