Reilly Finds Win in Wild Finish

Scott Winters, truely the fastest car on the track and Dwain Wilmes led the 23 car sprint field to green at the start of the 25 lap main. Winters quickly jumped out to big lead as the green waved, with Sam Hafertepe jr moving up into second. Curt Lund was on a charge on the high side moving to eighth before getting the nose wing clipped. By lap 5 Winters had a huge lead over Hafertepe who had good gap back to Bruce Allen in third.

Winters encountered lap traffic early and was slowed only long enough to slice through the pack, at times going four wide around slower cars. Winters was continuing to increase his lead when yellow waved on lap 11 for a spin by Sam McKillip. Lund pulled off during the caution, due to wing damage. Hafertepe's chances of a good finish ended on the restart when the car faltered on the start and he pulled to the infield.

As the race resumed and the crossed flags were shown it was Winters, Jason Tostenson, Allen, Rodney Henderson and Mike Sargent in the top five spots. Yellow waved again at that point when Jay Rickert went over the hil in turns 3-4. Hafertepe rejoined the field, but va lap down. Winters got a great jump on the restart, while Terry Reilly got past Henderson for fourth.

Winters had a straightaway lead by lap 15 and sailing along on the high side. Henderson brought out a caution on lap 17 when he rolled to a stop in turn 3, giving up fifth spot. Winters blasted off again leaving Reilly battling with Allen for third. Allen held off Reilly and moved in on Tostenson for second. Reilly took advantage of that battle to get around Allen for third on lap 21.

Reilly also used his momentum to snag second from Tostenson when the whole complexion of the race would change. Winters, who had been using the treachorous high groove while blowing through the pack, had it bite him on lap 22. Winters shot off the turn 4 hill, and luckily landed on all fours, allowing him to restart 14th.

Reilly got a slight lead on the restart, with Winters getting hung up in traffic and unable to make much progress. As the checkers waved it was Reilly taking his second Super Nationals victory in the ButlerBuilt/Beaves Truck Wash/Dupont Electric/Doc's Bar/Remax/Jurgens/J& J Chassis
