texana55 Posted September 4, 2012 Report Share Posted September 4, 2012 Race #3 is fast approaching and will be held on September 22nd at Texana Raceway Park (TRP) in Edna, Texas. There will be practice available on Friday night. You can keep up with the info for TRP following this link: http://www.lonestarspeedzone.com/forums/in...showtopic=49926 This one is going to be pretty unique for our series and is special because it is combined with an event honoring a guy who was a friend to many of us, Mr. Aaron Hudgeons. Aaron fought and ultimately lost the battle against cancer in the summer of 2010. TRP immediately initiated the Aaron Hudgeons Memorial Race in the latter summer of 2010. This will be the 3rd Annual event. Drivers such as the legendary Howard Willis, John O. Whittington, Paul White, and many others do their best to make this event in honor of a guy to was a friend to everyone he met and who was always willing to help someone out if they just asked. As you know, for our series each track committed to a specific minimum A-Main purse as a host track with no less than $400 to win and no less than $75 to start. On Saturday, Shady Oaks Speedway went above the minimum and provided $40 to each non-qualifier. TRP has has gone above the minimum in a different way by adding money to every single A-Main position making it $500 to win and $100 to start the A-Main. No non-qualifier money at TRP, but money added to every single A-Main position. Must start the A-Main to get paid from by the track. Also noteworthy, is that several of Aaron Hudgeons friends immediately established the Aaron Hudgeons Memorial Scholarship Fund. The race event is a huge part of generating funds for the scholarships where the group sell t-shirts. In May, 2012 the scholarship committee awarded six $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. They will again be at the raceway this special night on their drive to fund the scholarships. Finally, if you have not read on other posts, TRP has officially been sold by the Tesch's to Mr. Ken Bulsterbaum. This was a deal in the making for the last few months and is now offically signed. The September 22nd event will be the last event the Tesch's will run at TRP and it will be great to have our series in there for a tremendous send-off. Note, practice will be available on Friday, the 21st. Their pit passes will be $25 per person and no cost for general admission entry. Need to stress again that their race fee is $55 (which includes transponder rental). However, if you own a Westhold transponder, race fee is $40. AMB is not compatible. Race fee covers car and driver. All others in pits on race night $25. Track added money to every position, with $500 to win and $100 to start A-Main. No non-qualifier money on this one. I will not be able to attend because I'll be on call for work and don't think a two and a half hour response time would be too good for job security. I never met Aaron Hudgeons but the previous years show the respect this man had in the racing community, not only in the Edna/Goliad area but all over the state. Forecast according to NOAA: Friday: High 90, low 66 few clouds Saturday: High 91, low 68 clear Nice, Nice, Nice...
