rebelracewriter
Three time Boone track champion, Steve Jackson and Luke Veren led the 24 IMCA Stock Car feature to green with Jackson into turn 1 first. Larry Silbaugh and Veren then ran door to door for second before the top four singled themselves out. Veren tried several laps to get inside Jackson as the top three began to get away from the field. On lap 8 Silbaugh was able to get around Veren to snag the second spot and moved in on Jackson for the lead. Jackson appeared to slow slightly and wave Silbaugh by into the lead on lap 9. Veren and Jackson dueled side by side, until Jackson fell another spot landing in fifth. At halfway it was Silbaugh, Veren, Corey Rose, Jason Mallicoat and Jackson. Veren continued to take looks low on the leader, allowing Mallicoat to run down the lead duo. Lap 17 saw Veren and Silbaugh swapping a little paint in the scrap for the top spot. Veren would spin on lap 18 and collect Ryan Rose and Travis Thornton. Silbaugh and Mallicoat got a big jump on the restart, but caution was out again for a spin by Terry Cornellson that caught up Dean Taylor and Don Vis. This time C. Rose hung on to Silbaugh and Mallicoat as green came back out. C. Rose started to try low on Mallicoat, while Mallicoat was looking for a way past Silbaugh at the same time. Coming to take the white flag Mallicoat and Silbaugh were door to door for the lead. The two battled around the track and at the checkers it was two-time track champ, Mallicoat taking the victory. Jackson's points lead was enough that his eighth place finish didn't hurt his chance for the championship. Just the fact he finished ahead of second place Veren was enough to lock up the track title. So many in fact, that they were split into four different feature races to determine a champion. The starting grids were stagered to to put first and fifth, second and sixth, etc., on the front rows. In IMCA Hobby Stock main #1, points leader Randy Embrey jumped into the early lead. Randy Roberts and Embrey pulled away to settle the win amongst themselves. Roberts got inside Embrey on lap 10, but that was as close as he could get to the lead. Embrey would go on to get the win and the track championship.
