I’d like to apologize to Rick Pollaro #96

I can only imagine how it must feel to have won the race then be disqualified. All the hard work effort time and money you and so many others had put into the race can never be repaid. I would to apologize to you and your team for the selection of hydraulic lifters used in your 602 GM crate motor that Houston tech has found to be illegal. I see no performance enhancement whether a hydraulic lifter uses an e clip retainer or a wire clip retainer in a motor that has an rpm limiter chip and an 80 pound seat valve spring pressure limit. The lifter used has been in this motor is over 2 years. Also the lifer used and was disqualified is also 6 grams heaver that the round wire retainer lifter. Both lifters are from the same manufacturer and within 10 dollars of cost per set to one another.

Welcome to the 602 crate motor replacement parts pricing brought to you by GM and track rules.

lunati lifters #71817G set of 16 $66.61

Factory GM lifters #05232720 set of 16 $216.16

The prices are the store cost to Mission Auto Parts

Really???? A lifter?? DQ'ed over a lifter. Mr. Hamilton, your a very upstanding guy to come on here and take responsibility for this. I applaud you. I just cant see why its a DQ'able offense.

Cary, did you notice a difference in performance after you changed your lifters? I don't really know the ins and outs of lifters but I figure you have on track testing of the two different lifters.

We didn't notice any change. They were there because they are known to be less likely to come apart than the wire retainer type - probably the same reason they were in the motor in the 96.

nice passive aggressive dig at Jack and Ricky in the middle of what is probably a sincere apology.

Tom, No apology necessary you have always had My best interest in Mind w/ ALL The WILD CHILD Motorsports cars and truck and it shows on the track. I have NO ill feelings towards Jack, Ricky, HMP another team or any engine builders. I believe everyone is trying to do there job. As did the Motor builder for the 99 truck when he got DQ ed for the same infraction. I am sure w/ No question he felt he was using the most reliable equipment he could find w/ in the rules as it currently reads. Yes we are running last years motor in the New 96 Truck and actually Tom was the first to call me when Cary's infraction took place and Tom said he could not remember what he had put in the motor last year and was concerned. I chose to leave what Was Not Broken Alone until the time came to freshen up. I take full responsibility for my equipment on the Tech Pad.

Do I wish things went differently ? Absolutely as any racer would knowing what it takes just to get on the race track each week much less waiting for All The Planets to line up just right to pull off a Top finishing position.

My Opinion & My Opinion Only !!! ( IN A PERFECT WORLD ) I would like to see Tech in the future make a decission if the part is deemed a Non Performance Enhancing part and that part is not clearly stated in the rules as written. Tell the racer.... The Track does not like this part & do not bring it back & then Hand the Racer their Hard Earned Trophy. Then clarify the rule for the future & let the racers know in Next available Drivers meeting ( Which Jack does currently bring concerns to our attention in Drivers Meeting already ). SEE YOU @ THE RACES !!

If you look at the lifter on the right...it looks like it is about to come apart just setting there on the table with just three of the edges firmly in place....the fourth is not.....wow...needs to be more clarification in the rules big times

Maybe its time to find a new supplier...

The GM individual lifter part number is 5232720. The GM part number for a complete set of 5232720 lifters is 12371044. First choice would be to call 360 Motorsports at 281-999-RACE for the best pricing.

$86.39 for set of 16 GM 602 lifters from Super Chevy Performance: http://www.superchevyperformance.com/Hydra..._p/12371044.htm

Of course those prices are all retail not jobber. Scoggins-Dickey which was the cheapest above also offers a dealer discount. Hope that helps.

The lifter part number is what Rick was told to use and is the part listed on the original GM crate motor parts sheet. If the part numbers listed are ok to use then they should be listed for all to see. Are all the part numbers listed known not to have the illegal retaining clip? Thank you, Tom

Internally, which ones contain the lighter ceramic check balls (vs. the steel check balls) and/or the stiffer plunger springs? Or, the piddle check valve vs. the ball check? Or, a reduced bleed down restriction orifice (e.g. the Rhoads lifter design). That's what really determines the performance advantage... not the type of the retaining clip that holds all the internals together.

Tom, those are GM part numbers for GM parts from all those suppliers. They are already listed for all to see by GM. One part number is the individual lifter and the other part number is the set of 16. The GM description for GM part number 12371044 is that it contains a quantity of 16 of part number 5232720 lifters.
