Drake Rakes NCRA Sport Mod Feature at Humboldt Speedway

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Humboldt, Kansas – July 13, 2012 - Scott Drake of Joplin, Missouri took the lead from the pole position and never looked back to claim the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified feature Friday night in the tour’s first ever appearance at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas.

 

By virtue of earning the most passing and finishing points accumulated in heat race action, Drake, aboard the #12d Springfield Iron and Metal sponsored Yeoman powered Hoffman Race Car chassis, started on the pole for the twenty-five lap feature with series regular Chris Lyons along his outside. Drake jumped into the lead and despite three caution flags throughout the event was able to hold on to become the eighteenth different feature winner in the thirty-five races that have been held since the tour’s inception back in 2009.

 

Current series point leader Travis Johnson came from his seventh starting position to finish a close second while former feature winner Jeremy Chambers came home third. Jack Simmons came home fourth while Jimmie Davis rounded out the top five.

 

CP Racing Supply rookie of the year points leader Caleb Edwards came home sixth followed by Ross McCartney, Todd Decker, Curt Drake and defending series champion Chad McNamara.

 

C. Drake, who won the second “B” feature, was the Allen’s Automotive, Inc. Hard Charger of the race and earned the extra $100 by virtue of starting sixteenth to finish in the ninth position.

 

The five, eight lap heat races for the 38 car field were won by S. Drake, Leon Bash, Mike Letterman, Johnson and Greg Deterding while the two, twelve lap “B features were won by Jeremy Bennett and C. Drake.

 

Of the 38 car field, seventeen NCRA southern sport modified drivers made the trip to the track known as “The Hummer” to take on the tracks regular weekly division of B-Mods. In the feature, five drivers from the tracks B-mod division and five tour regulars finished in the top ten. The twenty car feature finale was also split evenly amongst both divisions.
