Jackson, Tiernan, Michehl share spotlight at Mineral City Speedway

 

FORT DODGE, Iowa (July 6) – It was a hot, steamy night Friday at the Mineral City Speedway with another round of the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series in action on fort Dodge’s Factory of Speed.

 

While the summer sun shone down on those in attendance, 47 fans got their chance to grab some cold, hard cash in the Fan Frenzy Money Drop where $5,000 plummeted from more than eight stories in the air.

 

In USRA Stock Car action, Steve Jackson of Polk City came through for the $400 victory. “Mr. Stock Car” held on Mike Goldsberry of Runnells for the win while Malcolm Teachout of Fort Dodge, Webster City’s Dennis Plain and points leader Lance Deal of Fort Dodge rounded out the top 5.

 

Defending track champion Andy Tiernan of Woodward collected $400 too as he topped the USRA B-Mod main event. Rocky Caudle of Webster City settled for the runner-up spot, with Matt Lettow of Roland, Brian Miller of Grand Junction and Boone’s Eric Elliott finished third through fifth.

 

Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge clawed his way from the eighth starting spot to claim the $300 top prize in the USRA Hobby Stock feature race for the fourth time during the 2012 campaign. Todd Hillman of Kamrar placed second, followed by Jeremy Morriss of Clare, Jeff Lyon of Duncombe and Grant Moline of Manson.

 

Brad Hanse of Fort Dodge came out on top in the Econo Stock main event by holding off fellow Fort Dodge resident Brad Babb, while Nate Evans of Fort Dodge came from dead last to win the Hornet feature over Mick Evans of Fort Dodge.

 

The Mineral City Speedway will be silent next Friday night as officials prepare for the Great American Stock Car Shootout on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 17-18. The event will feature USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks both nights, with Econo Stocks and Hornets joining the action on Wednesday as drivers battle for their biggest payoffs of the year.

 

USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will each be racing for $500 to win the first day and $1,500 on the second day. USRA Hobby Stocks battle for a $300 top prize on the first day with $700 going to the winner on day 2.

 

Grandstand gates open at 5:00, hot laps start at 7:00 and racing begins at 7:30 both days. Adult grandstand tickets are $12 on Tuesday and $15 on Wednesday. Kids ages 13-16 are $8 and children under 13 get in for free both days. Pit passes are $30 each day.
