Adams Victorious in NCRA Southern Sport Mod Event at 81 Speedway

Park City, Kansas – June 30, 2012 - Joe Adams put a stop to Travis Johnsons win streak and claimed a convincing victory in winning his first career Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified feature Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Johnson and Adams started on the front row for the twenty lap feature and after a four car tangle at the start to bring out the caution, the complete restart saw Johnson take to the front of the twenty car field.

Johnson would open a quick three car length before the caution would wave for a Tim Ford spin in turn two.

Johnson chose the low line on the restart putting Adams just to his outside with both drivers racing for the lead for the next several laps. Ross McCartney kept the leaders in his sights in third before Adams made his move for the lead on lap six, driving around the leader coming out of turn two.

Adams would stretch to a half stretch lead over Johnson while behind him, Andy Deterding began challenging McCartney for the third and took over the position on lap eight.

After a pair of cautions for spins on lap nine and ten, Adams once again distanced himself from the rest of the field on the restart.

There was no catching Adams the last half of the race as the Enid driver would go on to take the full straight away victor over Johnson. Deterding won a spirited battle over McCartney for third while C&P Racing Supply rookie of the year contender Caleb Edwards rounded out the top five.

The eight lap heat races for the twenty-six car field were won by Johnson, Adams and Deterding while the eight lap “B” feature was claimed by Todd Decker.

It was a rough night for Chad McNamara in the feature finale.

McNamara, who came into the night with a slim thirty point lead over Johnson in the point standings, suffered a flat on his right front tire at the races midway point. He would restart at the tail of the field to finish ninth.

The tour will take a couple weeks off before a double header weekend takes place on July 14-15th. It all kicks off that Friday night as the southern sport modified drivers head to Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas for their first ever appearance. They will then load up and head back west and the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas for the 56th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals. This event will pay $1000 to win.
