NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES – SUNBELT REGION NEWS & NOTES

* Greg Pursley Charging Towards First Regional Title

* Justin Oates leads ShorTrack Division

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 25, 2004) – Greg Pursley sent a strong statement to his competitors for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Sunbelt Region crown last week, with his 11th feature victory in a 75-lap Super Late Model feature at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. Pursley, of Santa Clarita, Calif., isn’t coasting to the finish, but is charging towards his first NASCAR championship at full speed.

David Beat, ranked second in the Sunbelt Region standings with nine wins and 13 top-five finishes at Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, Calif., will need to mount a huge effort to match Pursley’s mark in the NASCAR Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings, which determines the regional championship outcome based on a statistical comparison of drivers.

Pursley has completed 15 events at Irwindale, three shy of the NASCAR requirement of 18 starts in order to be eligible for the Sunbelt Region championship. However, Irwindale has three more Super Late Model events planned before the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series season concludes Sept. 19. On Saturday night, Sept. 18, Pursley is scheduled to compete in twin 50-lap events.

At Cajon Speedway, Beat’s schedule includes twin feature events on Sept. 4 along with the Sept. 18 Sportsman Late Model “Grand Prix”, which awards double points in the track championship battle.

Regardless of the results, both the first and second place drivers in the final Sunbelt Region standings will collect significant prizes from the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series point fund. The 2004 regional champion can win up to $45,000 while the second-place driver can collect up to $24,000 in post-season prize money. In total, NASCAR, Dodge and other participating sponsors award $1.7 million to NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series competitors.

Oates Leads ShorTrack Division … 17-year-old Justin Oates leads the Sunbelt Region standings NASCAR’s ShorTrack Division. The ShorTrack Division provides regional championship competition and additional point fund awards for support division racers in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. Oates, a resident of Adkins, Tex., has recorded eight wins and 12 top-five finishes in San Antonio (Tex.) Speedway’s Sportsman class.

Kosher would rather you post them here. The press release sektion is for all of the BS paid for stories. Koshes thinks that Chuck Likata works for thunderhill, not Tekkasspeedzone.

Chuck is a Moderator here on TSZ. Many people in the stock kar racing community have more than one responsibility. Chuck happens to have several.
