Don Schumacher Racing drivers Ron Capps (Funny Car) and Spencer Massey (Top Fuel) both set new national records on the first day of qualifying for this weekend’s Toyota NHRA Supernationals, taking place Sunday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.

Capps’ run of 3.964 seconds and 320.89 mph set both national records in Funny Car; the previous records were 3.995 seconds, set by DSR teammate Matt Hagan in September 2011 at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, and 318.99 mph, set by DSR’s Jack Beckman and also at Charlotte in September 2011.

Massey’s run of 3.728 seconds in Top Fuel set a new national record as well, eclipsing Del Worsham’s run of 3.735 seconds set in October 2011 at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania; his speed of 329.91 mph is the fourth-fastest in NHRA history.

Jason Line leads Pro Stock qualifying after two rounds with a fast pass of 6.518 seconds (212.16 mph), while hometown favorite Ed Krawiec leads Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying with a track-record pass of 6.728 seconds (197.48 mph).

Qualifying continues on Saturday with two more rounds – follow the action at www.nhra.com.
