rebelracewriter
Texas Super Racing Series @ San Antonio Speedway 8/14/04 By J M Hallas New with New Track Record. San Antonio; The 2003 TSRS Champion Ronny New has only been running select races this season, but that didn’t stop him from posting the fastest time in qualifying. New laid down a lap of 20.094, breaking the track record of Todd McLemore(20.204). New would then roll a nine on the dice placing Lloyd Alexander and current points leader, Mike Yale on the front row. Alexander was first into turn 1 to get the point. Yale moved into second ahead of Beau Bukowski who got a little loose, with Chris Schild, Jeff Pollard and Damon Bean three wide for sixth. Bean got out of shape from that battle and fell back to tenth after a good save. By lap 5 Alexander had begun to inch away with second through eighth running nose to tail. C. Schild was looking high on Bukowski for fourth on lap 7 and as the two battled it out, the top three were getting away from the pack.. The yellow waved on lap 9 when Michael Cullen began to slow and made contact with David White. Blake Harris was unable to stop in time and slid into the pile. On the restart, Bean slowed dramatically and pitted a lap later. New was able to get by Pollard for seventh on lap 10 as he worked his way forward. New picked up another spot on lap 11, using the high side to get by Henry Guerra. Jamie Fuller had trouble on lap 14, slowing and stacking up the field. In the back up, C. Schild and Bukowski made contact sending both into the turn 2 wall. The top five stayed together on green but Bukowski spun in turn 3 to slow the action again. This time Alexander got a five car lead as green waved, with Yale, New and Guerra running nose to tail. Alexander was still easing away when yellow flew on lap 21 for Bean whop slammed the back stretch wall. On the first try to restart, Brian Schild spun on the back stretch to bring the caution back out. Alexander and Yale got a good jump on the next restart, with Yale getting inside Alexander in turn 2. The duo battled side by side down the back stretch, but Alexander slowed in turn 3. Guerra got sideways coming out of turn 4, Reininger barely tapping the stationary car, but White tagged him. On the third try, Yale and New got out from Pollard, while Brad Hudak was working on Reininger for fourth. New turned up the heat on lap 25 with New getting inside Yale on lap 27 coming out turn 4. The two ran door too door through turns 1-2, with New snagging the lead on lap 29. New was inching away as the race came to halfway with Yale, Pollard, Reininger and Hudak rounding out the top five. Lap 34 saw the yellow hanky wave when Alexander, White and Bukowski got tangled in turn 1. Do to time constraints the race was cut to a 10 lap finish as the green flew again with New getting a five car edge over the Yale, Pollard, Reininger, Hudak fight for the runner-up spot. With five to go, New was increasing his lead as the top three separated out leaving Reininger and Hudak fighting for fourth. As the white was shown New had good margin over Yale and was able to grab the hard earned win coming from ninth in the Southside Wrecker/Pick & Pull(San Antonio)/Rowdy Racing/Lefthander Chassis/Monte Carlo.
