Waco Driver Looks to Climb ROMCO Ladder

By J M Hallas

Waco, Tx., After recently purchasing the ROMCO Super Late Model of Midland’s Jay Watson, the 2003 IMCA Stock Car, South Region Rookie of the Year, Shannon Parsons starts his trek up the ROMCO ranks. Parsons will be making his debut at the July 31st show at Houston Motorsports Park’s 3/8 mile paved track in Houston, Texas.

Parsons had hoped to get started at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas, but a leaking front seal ended his night before qualifications. During tear down for repair to the seal it was noticed that there were metal shaving in the oil pan. The motor was removed and sent back to JR Motorsports for repairs and not returned in time for him to make the rescheduled rain date.

Parsons will make only limited attempts this year to preserve his ‘rookie’ status in Romco, along with the continued campaign of his IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car. Parsons has been as high as 5th in National IMCA Modified points, 3rd in the Region and State, while being second in Modified Rookie points. In IMCA Stock points, he was up to 6th in the Nation and Region, as well as 5th in State, before focusing his attention to the ROMCO series.

Despite limited pavement experience, Parsons’ goals are to be the best he can and climb the ROMCO ladder as quickly as possible. In only his second year of racing Parsons has surpassed his learning curve, taking second in track points last year at Bellmead Speedway(Waco) and I-37 Speedways(Pleasanton) Winter Series in the IMCA Stock Car class.

Parsons’ main supporter and sponsor is his father, Stuart who owns Parsons Roofing, other sponsors include Bowen Electric, Wear Radio and Truman Arnold. Other members of the team are Robert Greeson, Andy Parsons jr., Darrell Pope and Kyle Arnold, his mother, Sue who keeps the team fed(and can that lady cook), wife Dena, two daughters, Payden and Abby and niece, Renee. At present the team is in search of a permanent crew chief, while Jay Watson and Heath Cole swap the responsibilities.
