Sunoco Modifieds at Knoxville Raceway. From Walker, Mo., Clark started outside Phil Penney of Percival on the front row, pulled ahead from the start and was never closely challenged throughout the 25-lap contest. Kevin Larkins of Greenwood, Neb., was second and defending race winner Greg Metz of Washington, Kan., ran third. Rounding out the top five were Todd Shute of Des Moines and Jeff Stephens of Dow City. Larkins moved up nine spots from the start, Metz 13 and Stephens, a “B” feature winner, 12. Ottumwa’s Ken Bryant made the biggest charge toward the front, 18 places, to finish sixth. Third at last year’s Clash, Clark earned $2,000 for the victory, with a total payout of $17,000 to the 28 drivers making the feature. Both the winner’s share and the feature purse were the highest in the 13-year history of the event, sponsored by Karl Chevrolet of Ankeny. Postponed because of inclement weather last Thursday, the Clash saw 81 drivers vie for spots in the main event. The top two from each of eight heat races and top three from each of four “B” features qualified for the big show. Feature Results 1. Gary Clark, Walker, Mo.; 2. Kevin Larkins, Greenwood, Neb.; 3.
