HMP 9/17 Modifieds

WOW -If you have not seen the PURSE for the 9/17 race, it is again better than any offered in the country for Modifieds. $3000 to win $500 to start for a total of $13,600 if we can get 20 modifieds to come out and race. Guys we have 4 more races this year and HMP is doing everything they can to show future corporate sponsors how great our class really is. With that said it is our responsibility to have 20 car fields from here on out. The best we can do now is take it one race at a time and have the 20 car minimum so we can race for these type of purses. Seeing and hearing what HMP is trying to accomplish for us the racers means we need to show our support and get the car counts where they should be. I have talked to a couple of my up North Modified racers and a company that builds many of the modifieds and they cannot believe we have a purse this good. Like I have stated before they are racing for 1000 to 1200 to win and 100 to start at best on a special show at the tracks they run on in the Midwest and North and I was told there Late models do not race for this kinfd of Purse but maybe 2 time a year. Let's do our best to hit our minimum car count of 20 so someone can collect the 3000 to win, 1000 for 2nd, 800 for 3rd, 700 for 4th, 600 for 5th and 500 to start purse. Remember this purse is good only if we have 20 or more cars so get out and let your fellow Mod brothers know about the purse and let's show HMP we can get more than 20 mods.

Whos going to be there the 17th????????????

heres who was there for the rainout and I assume will be back (14) total:

07 - 2 - 6 - 8 - 13 - 15 - 23 - 33 - 41 - 44 - 59 - 81 - 82 - 88 who else, we need 20 to get the purse and we can do it.

Where's the? 007 - 1 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 14 - 18 - 22 - 26 - 30 - 32 - 35 - 39 - 40 - 42 - 47 - 65 - 78 - 91 - 360 that's 21 cars missing

What about our Florida, Alabama modifieds?????????????? Dont be scared

They ain't scared, and this is not a bash against HMP.

It is a matter of logistics and cost. Over there, they do not pay nascar for the license or car registration. The all run a different tire than HMP, Hoosier versus Goodyear.

While the quicker cars over there could be competitive, you have to factor their fuel bill to come over here, then add the nascar money for the license, then hotels, food, pit passes, and they would probably like the chance to practice the goodyear rubber, therefore they are looking at two sets of tires that will make great swings for the kids back in the southeast. They are out almost $2500 after all the costs mentioned above. And that does not include the carburator. Their carbs are legal everywhere in the country except for Texas. Enough on that whole issue.

We went through all this back in 2006 when USRA went to the Pensacola/Mobile Super Late Model rules and thought those guys would convoy over here. Never saw a one of them. Same issue with the tire; we were on American Racer, they all run a Hoosier. And it is not a matter of them running good at the local tracks, the bigger guys run good anywhere they go. But they won't give up a half week to come this far when they have good paying shows in their back yard.

Yes, HMP is paying a good purse. But Diesel is expensive, one track tires are expensive, and lots of folks these days don't have the vacation time to blow a half week between travel, practice, and the race night.

As an example, I had to negotiate into my contract with my company that the Snowball weekend is my vacation, period.

I have had 3 or 4 weekends in the last year that I could not go to the southeast with a friend. Felt bad that I told them I thought I could go, then a few days before, work took precedence. There are three processes in my company that only I am qualified to do. Great job security, but bad for planning vacation. The last two years, I have left Pensacola after the Derby, droven home and gone back to work at 8-9 AM Monday. Due to how far I get behind being gone from Thursday to Monday. Defense Contractors lose money if they get behind........

The southeast guys have never made very many trips over here, with the exception of the ALL Pro Series in the 80's, and the two big shot races.

txtom, I meant the DONT BE SCARED as a joke. sorry if I hit a nerve. I now how musch diesel cost and all the travel expense. We go to the Snowball with our Modified and it cost us 2500 to run for 2500 to win. Doesnt make much since but we do it anyway along with several other Texas Mods. I was just stating that we have a purse better than any offered for modifieds in the country. As for the tire deal a mod team from out of state that did not run the Goodyer could practice on either there other brand of tire like some do when they go to the snowball, practice on the Goodyears to scuff them in and race on the Goodyear scuffds like everybody else. I think alot of te reason the Alabama and Florida guys do not come over here is the schedule conflict and the rules difference but that will all change for 2012 as stated in HMP's most recent rules posted earlier.

Tom, I don't think its a matter of logistics only... if HMP was running the mods with this same purse and Steven Davis had spanked everybody when he came over here a couple of weeks ago, my guess would be that there would be a conga line headed this way from Ala. and Fla. every other weekend to try and take some of this prize money back home. We have all seen guys spend 1000.00 to win 500.00 . Just my opinion!

No offense or nerve hitting anywhere. The scared comment is always meant in fun. And I am not trying to bum anyone out.

It is just being a little realistic.

I think everyone is trying to get more cars out, and that is good. But there are a number of cars sitting in Texas, many more than on the list above. These are the cars that need to come back.

As for the reason on why they are not running, the owners need to be asked. But we are in a terrible economy, and these cars are not getting any cheaper. They take many more man hours to maintain, hours that are hard to find. And you have to have a shock specialist in your hip pocket to run at the front. That one item has gotten out of control, almost as bad, maybe worse, than the "crate" motor.

When you ask those racers why they are parked, they will give you many different reasons. You will agree with some, disagree with others, and some will have you scratching your head about where they are coming from.

But just about every reason has been discussed on this forum, and they are still parked. No need to rehash them here; I'm in good with Nick, and don't want to keep him busy with editing.

But, while it would be neat to see Pollard or Wilkerson or Ruble or any of the other SE shoes come over, it very doubtful it will happen. Even with the common rules, there won't be much if any, travel. Remember my previous post talking about the SLM cars and common rules.

Now having said all that, catch me at a track somewhere and I might just have a more precise answer/opinion for you.....

HMP racers put on a helluva good show without the wannabees from out east.17-22 cars is perfect on that track and the restart format makes it worth it to drive 200 miles to watch.Concentrate on "our"guys and all is well.

The one thing the increased purses do more than draw from out of state is help offset some of the expenses the regulars have.If it keeps up and gives racers in Texas more confidence to spend thousands on a new car,we will see huge car counts in years to follow.Insecurity about facility staying open, purse being secure, and rules changes seem to affect car counts quite a bit.(from an outside observer)

It is just being a little realistic.

Don't feel alone Tom....people hate when I'm realistic sometimes too....They tell me I'm too negative...

I don't feel that way at all. If folks read my last posting real close, they will see that I stated the basic same thing that Definitive and Chase stated. Did you see this sentence?

But there are a number of cars sitting in Texas, many more than on the list above. These are the cars that need to come back.

Don't worry about the guys over there, they have good programs close to home.

Concentrate the efforts on getting the local guys back out and we would have a good self sustained program.

They have always put on good shows. Just need more of them.

I really don't care if the racers from back East show up or not. Besides, they would probably get their asses handed to them anyway because the best Modified drivers in the USA are right here in Texas.

The purses are to build the classes up here locally. All the sponsors involved were interested in getting the cars here in Texas out of shops, barns and garages.

Aligning the rules up with Gulf Coast was more about consistency. The more tracks on same or very similar sets of rules, the healthier it is for car count. It becomes easier to buy and sell race cars.

If you want to talk about what's wrong with racing, please hijack another thread. This one is about having a 20 car field on September 17th with one of the biggest modified purses in the country.

looks like you got your 20 :D

Where is your Mod. Do yall still have it?

James Cole is racing that car over on the West Coast (or using it as a backup???). We just sold our ProLate and got a Lefthander ProMod which we'll be racing next year. Maybe I can get it together for some races this year, but for sure not by this weekend :(
