rebelracewriter
Nearly 80 pre-entries in for Harris Clash at Knoxville KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 14) – Seventy-eight drivers are pre-entered for the Harris Clash for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds, to be held Thursday, July 22 at the Knoxville Raceway. While the race features the biggest feature purse in its 13-year history, event organizer and promoter Bob Harris cited a number of reasons behind the surge in early entries. “Response has been outstanding this year. I expect to have 85 pre-entries by the end of the week,” he said. “In addition to the increased purse, we’ve done more marketing than in the past to increase our exposure, and people who have attended this event before know how well the event is run.” “All drivers are guaranteed $75 tow money and that covers their entry fee and two pit passes, he added. “Because of all the rain this spring and early summer, a lot of drivers haven’t raced as much this year and still have money in their budget for special events.” A field of 104 drivers vied for starting spots in the 2003 Harris Clash feature, won by Greg Metz of Washington, Kan. This year’s winner earns $2,000, a $400 bump from last year, while the feature purse was upped $3,000 to a total of $17,000. All drivers will get at least two chances to qual-ify for the 25-lap feature. Sponsored by Karl Chevrolet of Ankeny, the Harris Clash is fully I.M.C.A. sanctioned. Pit passes are $20 and no one under the age of 16 will be allowed in the pit area. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the draw closes at 6:05 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with the first heat race at 7:15 p.m. No national, regional or state points will be awarded.
