JamesHigdon
ok here it i need too know if i can use a 6al with the stock hei dist Yes, one of two ways. You need the MSD 8861 adapter to run the Purple/Green magnetic trigger wires of your MSD straight into the distributor to bypass the hei module. You can also make your own jumpers using small speaker style spade terminals. Now, you can either run your MSD to your in cap hei coil (using the black/orange wires running up into the coil plug in) or you can run MSD's external coil conversion with a Blaster 2 canister style coil. I personally prefer the external coil as long, highspeed runs can over heat the in-cap coil. The grey wire off the MSD is the tach feed (you may need an adapter for a later model GM tach). The white wire off the MSD is for a different kind of pickup and is not needed but can be grounded through a toggle for an ignition kill switch. Run the smaller red wire out of the MSD to your pink HEI power wire and the big black/red wires to either your battery (fused on the red wire) or run the red wire to the central junction. JamesHigdon
You're welcome! Just as a side note on a mod I would run the 8401 kit which allows the external coil conversion with a Blaster 2 canister style coil. MSD used to sell HEI upgrade kits which included the 6al, HEI conversion kit, the needed harness and a Blaster 2 coil.
