Three Race Independence Day weekend await NCRA Late Model Series

Park City, Kansas (June 26, 2011) - After being silent for over a month, the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley’s Racing Products DIRTcar late model series kicks back into action in a big way this coming Independence Day weekend with three races at three different venues on the docket.

It all kicks off this coming Friday night, July 1st, at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska with $3000 going to the nights feature winner. Then on Saturday night the tour makes their second ever appearance at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa for yet another $3000 winners share. The tour then closes out the holiday weekend with their first of two appearances of the season atop the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas on Sunday night in a $2500 to win event. The Friday and Saturday night shows will be co-sanctioned with the DART Corn Belt Clash and Lucas Oil MLRA late model series while Sunday night’s event will see the series Great Plains DIRTcar region joining forces with the NCRA DIRTcar late model regulars.

Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kansas currently sits atop the point standings with Cory Zeitner of Omaha, Nebraska just fifteen points out of the lead in second place. Dean Moore of Grand Junction, Colorado is third in the point standings while late model veteran Joe Kosiski of Omaha sits fourth. Shelton, Nebraska’s Steve Kempt, who leads the Great Plains DIRTcar late model point standings, currently sits in the fifth position.

Drivers expected to compete during this holiday weekend late model triple header include Wylan Petrie of Soloman, Kansas, Shawn Harker of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, former series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska, John Anderson of Omaha, Billy Koons, Jr. of Omaha, Mike Collins of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Gary Christian of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Eric Turner of Hermitage, Missouri. Close to forty drivers from at least six different states are expected.

There have been five different feature winners out of the five races that have been completed thus far on the 2011 race season and with still eleven points races left on the season, the battle for the points championship has just begun. All indications are that five-time and defending series champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado will not be back to defend his championship so a new series champion is sure to be crowned at season’s end.

Among the tour winners thus far include Purkey (Great American Dirt Track), Brandon McCormick (Humboldt Speedway), Jesse Stovall (81 Speedway), Brady Smith (Junction Motor Speedway) and the most recent feature winner, Chad Simpson (I-80 Speedway).
