rebelracewriter Posted April 11, 2003 Report Share Posted April 11, 2003 Texas 250 Pole Up For Grabs At Houston Motor Speedway Pendleton, IN (April 10, 2003) – For the first time in the 36-year history of the ASA Racing Series, the state of Texas will witness America’s premier short track stock car racing series. ASA makes its debut at the state-of-the-art Houston Motor Speedway and its .375-mile oval on Saturday, April 12. The ASA Racing Texas 250 starting field will be set with pole qualifying scheduled for 4 p.m. at Houston Motor Speedway on Saturday. Texas’s premier short track hosts the series that is known to build champions for the first time. In ASA’s most recent event at a first-time facility to host the series, 2000 ASA Rookie runner-up Robbie Pyle won the pole position at Illiana Motor Speedway in September of 2002 for the CITGO/MDA 300. The pole was the seventh for the Columbus (OH) competitor. Pyle toured the .50-mile oval in 19.835 seconds at 90.749 mph ranking first of the 41 racers. Eventual ASA National Champion Joey Clanton timed in second quickest with three-time ASA National Champion Butch Miller, two-time National Champion Gary St. Amant and Mike Garvey rounding out the top-five qualifiers. The ASA Racing Texas 250 kicks off on Friday, April 11 with a three-hour optional practice session beginning at 1 p.m. On Saturday, practice resumes at 12 p.m. with qualifying scheduled for 4. The ASA Racing Texas 250 goes green at 8. Tickets are still available through the ASA office or asaracing.com at a cost of $25 for general admission seats.
