TMS President Gossage said today (on Dallas sports radio) that he is adding something to the upcoming Indy car race.

This Friday, they are testing sportmods on dirt tires on the legends car track that's the "connected" front straight and pit road (1/4 mile)

HMMMMMMMMM......

here's what I saw...

fast lap was 16.20/30

6.20 to 6.50------->7200-7400 but several were pretty "flat" at the flagstand

some pretty feathered tires in 3 or 4 10 lap sessions

some sway bars, some no

a lot of stop and go--->high static rear% and rear biased brake mc's (?)

maybe 8 cars

also, while most of the track is flat, the nascar front straight is banked. It is unusual and a suspension challenge in that there is no transition up on to the banking halfway thru 4 and down off the banking halfway thru 1.

The cars looked cool under the lights running in front of those big stands.

I predict that someone will take a page from the scca dot tire deal and take a set of tires to a tire tread "truer" machine--->basically a tire lathe. They will have 90% of the tread shaved off . The tires will be faster and run cooler.

BTW, the dirt car series Marc is running now uses takeoff 10" Hoosier asphalt slicks->on dry slick, the cars are all in a wad because no one can really get away. The tires are only $30 each but the rub rail and body dollars are going up
