rebelracewriter Posted October 9, 2010 Report Share Posted October 9, 2010 Karrick Takes Rolls To Opening Night Win At The McCarthy Auto Group 10th Annual Jayhawk Modified Classic Kansas City, KS -If Tim Karrick wanted to, he could establish two types of exclusive clubs for modified racers at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, he could. Currently, Karrick is in a special club all by himself. It's the "Drivers who have won the Jayhawk twice club." After his run in the A Scramble on Friday night, he might start thinking about the "Drivers who have won the Jayhawk more than twice." Karrick is the only driver to have won this prestigious race more than once. He took home consecutive titles in 2006 & 2007. An impressive feat not only because of the names that have taken home trophies, but because of the names that race and haven't won the big one yet. Each year a list of heavy hitters makes their way to Lakeside Speedway to see who can take home the $5,000 first prize. (That also includes $1,000 to just start the A Main.) Karrick has not had the year he has grown used to. It wouldn't be unheard of for him to rip off 6 to 8 wins a year at Lakeside Speedway. The last couple of years he has struggled to maintain that championship form. Friday night it looked as if Karrick had not lost a beat. Drawing well at big events can help get a drivers momentum up even before they step behind the wheel of a car. Karrick started on the outside front row of his heat race and won. He also parlayed his good fortune by winning his heat, the 2nd race of the night, it put him on the front row for the A Scramble. The A Scramble would see the top 12 drivers lock themselves into tomorrow night's A Main event. An event that pays a whopping $5,000! The top 8 drivers started heads up on their heat race finishes and this year, for the first time, they would be joined by 8 drivers who would transfer from the B Feature. A new twist to the event. Karrick took home the scramble win starting on the front row again. It gives him some confidence heading into Saturday night's main event. An event that he has won two times and seems to be on his way to number 3. Standing in Karrick's way will be John O'Neal Jr. O'Neal had a strong run Friday night as well. He picked up the win in the 8th heat race of the night. In the scramble he clicked off 6 spots to finish 2nd. Karrick and O'Neal, competitors for their entire careers, will make up the front row for the feature on Saturday. The winner of heat race #5, Ryan Ruter, finished in the 3rd spot, Jim Moody was the highest finisher in the scramble to come from the B Feature and Johnny Scott, winner of heat race #7, rounded out the top 5. By virtue of their finishing positions in the scramble; Aaron Marrant, Mark Dotson, Dustin Boney, Jason Bodenhammer, Tom Charles, Kerry Davis and Terry Beckham have all locked their starting positions for tomorrow night. Each driver is now guaranteed a minimum of $1,000 for their efforts. As the 1st 6 rows are now set for the big dance, it will be up to the remaining drivers to see who will round out the field on Saturday night. Winning from the 7th row on back will not be easy, but it can be done. Drivers who qualify on day 2, will have to run an extended amount of laps. It wouldn't be uncommon for a driver to log close to 90 laps if they were to participate in every race. Several big names are still on the outside looking in. The dogfight for the final 12 positions will be at a premium. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7 p.m. and the heats get started at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets for Saturday night are $15, kids 8 - 14 are $6 and children under 7 are always FREE at Lakeside Speedway.
