Big Money & Great Modified Racing On Tap At Lakeside Speedway This Weekend

Kansas City, KS - It took an entire month to get some good weather at Lakeside Speedway and last Friday and Saturday night the fans were treated to the great racing action that happens every weeke during the reacing season. The fast 1/2 mile track in Kansas City, KS gave everyone a preview of what's to come for this weekend's McCarthy Auto Group Jayhawk Modified Classic.

After a one year hiatus, the Jayhawk Classic returns and should pack two nights full of non-stop modified excitement.

If last weekends modified races were any precursor to this week's event, WOW. 3 and 4 wide racing was evident during each and every race contested. As the track crew continues to have nice weather, their efforts are being well rewarded with the action on the track.

One of the big draws for the Jayhawks is it's wonderful payout. A whopping $5,000 awaits the winner of Saturday night's A Main. Just to make the main event the last place car, in the 24 car field, is guaranteed $1,000! This year there will be a new twist to the race that turns 10 years old this weekend.

In the years before, if you won your heat race you were locked into a spot in the A main event. This meant that if you won a heat race, you won $1,000. This year that statement won't be true. Winning a heat race in 2010 locks you into the A Scramble, but the B Mains will now add 8 more drivers to the A Scramble. If there is 8 heat races, then 16 drivers will battle it out in the A Scramble. Only the top 12 will move on to the main event on Saturday night. Where each driver finishes in the 1st Scramble will lock in the first 6 rows and the 2nd Scramble will lock in the final 6 rows for the $5,000 to win feature.

Sixty-five drivers checked in last weekend at Lakeside. Look for that number to grow as an expected 70 to 80 cars are expected for this weekend's races.

Past Jayhawk Notes -

** Tim Karrick is the only driver to win more than one Jayhawk title.... 2006 & 2007.

** Clint Bowyer (2003) parlayed his success into a career on the NASCAR circuit.
