NCRA Southern Modified Division in Muskogee

This Friday and Saturday Night!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – October 4, 2010 - A special two day event is coming up next for the O’Reilly/NCRA modified south division as they make their final appearance of the season this coming Friday and Saturday night at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma for the first annual “NCRA Southern Modified Okie Nationals” atop the Muskogee Fairgrounds half mile oval. This special two day event will also see an enhanced purse that will pay $1000 to the Saturday night feature finale winner with $150 for all drivers starting the twenty car finale.

The weekend will also see the continuation of the battle for the 2010 series points’ championship where season long leader Dustin Buntin has it while three drivers still have a mathematical shot to over take him.

Consistency reigns for Buntin as he has finished in the top ten seven times while earning five top five finishes to hold a 110 point lead over Todd Decker. Decker has two feature victories on the season with his first coming back at the season opener at Elk Citys I-40 Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma back on March 13. His second came back on July 25th at Enid Speedway.

Robert Elliott is third in the point standings with one feature victory and 185 points out of the top spot. Elliott leads the second year series with three career feature victories with the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified division and is one of five drivers to have competed in all sixteen events that have been held in the series short history. Other drivers with perfect attendance the past two seasons include Decker, Frank Graven, Kevin Snow and Landon Maddox.

Speaking of Snow, he is the other driver with an outside shot at the championship as he is 255 points out of the lead.

Kevin Dickson is currently fifth in the point standings but Randy Sallee is just five points behind despite missing one event on the 2010 race season.

Rounding out the top ten include series regulars Maddox, Graven, Donnie McConnell and Randy Bohnstedt. However, McConnell will not be in action as he will be undergoing shoulder surgery early this week and looks to be done for the season.

Other series regulars expected to compete include Tommy Bohnstedt, Ross McCartney, and Brandon Cross. Track regular Kyle Slader, who won the only other series appearance at the famed half mile oval, is also expected to compete.

The festivities will get underway on Thursday night with an open practice session for all drivers, Pit passes are $20 (kids admitted free) with food being served to all drivers, crew and family appreciation provided by Charlie’s Chicken with beverages being served by RC/7UP.

It all kicks off this Friday night, October 8th, and will consist of heat races and two qualifier features. The top four from each qualifier will lock into the first four rows of Saturday's main event. Then on Saturday night, two last chance qualifiers will be run with the top six finishers from each qualifier transferring into the A feature behind the top eight from Friday. Last chance qualifiers will be lined up heads up from Friday's qualifiers. Only 100 show up points will be given for the two day weekend.

Pit gates on Friday night open at 5:00 PM at the famed Muskogee Fairgrounds facility that experienced a facelift after being purchased over the winter months. Races are scheduled for a 7:30 PM. start time. Pit passes are $30 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-12 and five and under are free. Grandstand tickets are $10 while grandstand tickets for children ten and under are free.
