NCRA Modified North Championship to be Decided This Saturday Night!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – October 3, 2010 - It is championship night coming up this Saturday night as the O’Reilly/NCRA modified north division puts to wraps their 13th consecutive race season at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas as part of the tracks annual running of the “Wix Filters/Bumper to Bumper Fall Classic” where four drivers have a realistic shot at obtaining the 2010 season championship.

Current series points leader Brian Powers of Wichita, Kansas comes into the season finale with a slim 35 point advantage over 2008 series champion Marc Hurd. Brent Burkhart is not out of the picture as he sits third in the standings, just 81 points out of the lead while leading series rookie contender Tyler Davis has a mathematical shot, 105 points behind.

Despite being shut out in five events, consistency has been the key for Powers as he has amassed five, top five finishes and three heat race victories. He has finished second in three of the five events, twice at 81 Speedway and at the 54th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals. A championship would be the first ever for Powers, who finished fourth in the tracks weekly points championship.

For Hurd, he is looking for his second series championship in two years. He has a series leading three victories, twice at the famed Kansas State Fairgrounds half mile oval in Hutchinson, Kansas where he swept both nights of the Hutchinson Nationals and at the famed High Banks in Belleville, Kansas.

It has been a strong season for Burkhart where a third place finish during the Hutch Nationals was his only top five finish on the season. He has three, top ten finishes on the season.

Four top ten finishes, highlighted by a third place at his first ever appearance at the Belleville High Banks has put Davis with an outside shot at a championship during his rookie season.

But the battle is not only for the series point’s championship but who will get top ten in the final points as well. Fifth through tenth in the current standings looks like this: 5th - Casey McClaskey, 6th – rookie contender Dan Powers, 7th – Ross Shipman, 8th – Ryan McAninch, 9th – Marlin Farr and 10th – Jason Schniepp. On the outside looking in and a chance to crack the top ten include defending series champion Dan Daniels, Jim Johnson, Brad Johnston, Jim Pearcy and Tad Davis.

Through the five events that have been completed, 74 different drivers have competed in at least one event on the 2010 race schedule with eight drivers having competed in all five events while nine drivers have only missed on show.

Gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing action set for 7:00 PM sharp. 81 Speedway is located North of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. For more race and ticket information contact the 81 Speedway office (316) 755-1781.
