Berck Wraps Up NCRA Late Model Season with Cornhusker Classic Victory!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Greenwood, Nebraska – September 25, 2010 - Defending series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska started on the outside of the front row and never looked back to claim his third O’Reilly/NCRA late model feature victory of the season on Saturday night as the series premier division closed out their 27th season at Nebraska Raceway Parks I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska during the annual running of the “Cornhusker Classic.” As been the case since the running of this event, this night was also held with the Missouri based Lucas Oil MLRA.

Berck, aboard the familiar #14 Dorothy Lynch Homestyle Dressing/Stroble Construction sponsored Swartz Race Car chassis, out ran Joe Kosiski at the start and quickly took the lead for the $3000 to win thirty lap feature. The race went caution on lap two when five-time and 2010 series champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado and Al Humprhey got together retiring Humprhey early to the pits.

On the restart, Berck again throttled away from the rest of the field with Kosiski and current Lucas Oil MLRA points leader Brad Looney giving chase. Both drivers battled for the runner up position before Looney finally took control of the position on lap twelve.

At the races midway point Boen, aboard the # 07 Roadrunner Fabrication/Peterson Fluid System sponsored Rocket Chassis was again involved in the next caution when he and former two time series champion Al Purkey tangled sending Purkey to the pit area with a flat tire. He would be able to restart at the tail of the field where he would work himself up to a ninth place finish.

On the final restart there was no catching Berck as he led the final distance to take his 23rd career series victory and solidify a top ten finish in the final 2010 point standings. Looney finished a strong second to secure his points lead with the Lucas Oil MLRA while Travis Dickes had an outstanding run to come home third. Kosiski settled for fourth with Dave Eckrich rounding out the top five.

The eight lap heat races for the thirty-two car field were won by Berck, Looney, Mike Wiarda and Humphrey while Bill Koons, Jr. took home the “B” feature honors over Bryant Goldsmith, 2010 series rookie of the year Jase Kaser and Shawn Harker.

This annual rendition of the “Cornhusker Classic” looked to be in serious doubt as heavy rain late Friday night and early Saturday morning had track crews scrambling to get the track in racing condition. But with the help of Patrick M. Pinney Contractors and all day work on the track made racing conditions top notch and officials of both the O’Reilly National Championship Racing Association and the Lucas Oil MLRA would like to give special thanks to all who made the evening possible.

The National Championship Racing Association would like to thank the following for contributors for their involvement with the late model division for the 2010 race season.
