MrX
You can try a trans treatment called Muscle MT10 metal treatment. It works grate it helps clean the trans valve body governors and wont affect seals. can git it at any tran part place.
KISS_Racing
HT, Sounds like the valve body. I know we used to put shift kits in automatics and they would hit harder between gears. I'm with Mrx, try some sort of cleaner and definately put Lucas in it when you replace tranny fluid. Mark
jwmbishop
Sounds like a gummy valve body (not to be confused with a gummy bear) - but I am no auto trans expert! This is pre electric lock up right? If a lockup it could be the converter - but I don't think the lockups were used until 97 (could be wrong). jwmbishop
Check the kickdown adjustment - if it slipped it will try to run between gears.
