Boen Sweeps NCRA King of the Hill Late Model Shootout

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – McCool Junction, Nebraska – August 14, 2010 - Kelly Boen continued his mastery of Junction Motor Speedway as he swept the two day weekend of events during the 7th annual King of the Hill Late Model Shootout Saturday night as the O’Reilly/NCRA late model division made their fourth and final appearance for the 2010 race season atop the big three-eighths mile facility in McCool Junction, Nebraska. Just as in previous years, the weekend was run with the Missouri based Lucas Oil late model division.

Mike Wiarda started on the pole for the 35 lap feature but it was third starting Boen who quickly jumped out into the lead as the green flag fell. Anderson overtook Wiarda for the runner up position and kept pace with Boen, the career O’Reilly/NCRA late model feature winner with 54 career victories, but could never get around the familiar #07 Cornett Racing Engines powered Rocket Chassis and settled for his second consecutive runner up finish.

Wiarda, who was running third for the first third of the event, jumped the cushion to bring out the caution on lap ten. A couple of laps later saw the red flag shut down the event for a multi car pileup in turn three which saw Omaha, Nebraska driver Andrew Kosiski flip his late model. He was uninjured.

Two time and defending series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska started fifth and would work his way up to a third place finish. For the second night in a row, Travis Dickes finished fourth while former two-time series champion Al Purkey put on a strong run to round out the top five.

For Boen, it was his sixth straight series victory at the track and fourth King of the Hill Late Model Shootout champion.

The heat races for the 32 car field were won by Boen, Anderson, Wiarda and Brad Looney while Dave Eckrich and Bill Koons claimed the two “B” feature honors.

The next event for the O’Reilly/NCRA late model division will take place with another weekend double this coming weekend. It all kicks off Saturday night with the series second and final appearance of the season at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas. From there it will be the series first appearance since April of 2000 as they heat to the historic half mile dirt oval on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri and will be joined by the Lucas Oil MLRA.
