Slader Picks Up NCRA Southern Mod Stop at Thunderbird Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Muskogee, Oklahoma – August 07, 2010 - Fifteen year old Kyle Slader of Muskogee, Oklahoma gave his hometown crowd something to cheer for as he took the lead on lap seven and was never threatened as he took home the victory Saturday night as the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified division made their first and only scheduled appearance of the season at Thunderbird Speedway.

As the result of earning the most passing points in heat race action, Randy Sallee of Enid started on the pole for the twenty lap event and pulled ahead at the start, only to see outside front row starter Todd Decker race side by side with him heading down the backstretch and take the lead entering turns three and four.

Only one lap was complete before the first of three caution flags fell as Greg Dilbeck and Chris Holt got together in turns three and four.

The restart saw Decker motor away from the rest of the field while behind him, Ross McCartney, who started fourth, used the double file restart to his advantage and passed Robert Elliott for the third spot and challenged Sallee for the runner up position.

Meanwhile, behind the front runners, Dustin Buntin, who came into the night as the series points leader, began working his way up from his eleventh starting position and into the top four by lap four. One lap later saw the caution wave once more for Danny Long as he spun in turn four.

The restart saw Decker still your leader with Sallee and Slader, who started seventh, side by side on the double file restart behind Decker with Slader jumping into the runner up position once the green flag fell. McCartney found his way around Sallee for the third spot while Slader set sail on the leader.

With Decker up top of the big fairgrounds half mile oval and Slader down low, both drivers raced side by side down the backstretch on lap seven with Slader taking the lead in turns three and four.

With Slader starting to open up a six car length advantage over Decker, the final caution of the evening fell when Kevin Snow, who came into the night second in the series point standings, and Terry Osborn got together in turns three and four.

On the final restart Slader had no serious challenges and would go the distance to pick up his first career series victory by eight car lengths.

Decker and McCartney raced side by side for the last eight laps of the feature finale with Decker finally taking control with one lap to go and finish second. Elliott put away his mechanical gremlins to finish fourth while veteran modified driver Frank Graven of Cushing worked his way through the field from his thirteenth starting position to round out the top five.

Buntin would experience heating problems and his night ended on lap sixteen with a fifteenth place finish.

The three, eight lap heat races for the twenty-two car field were won by McCartney, Maddox and Snow.
