NCRA Southern Mods Set for Hutch and 81 Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – June 28, 2010 - Last year was not only the inaugural year for the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified division but they also experienced the atmosphere and prestige of the Hutchinson Grand Nationals. Not only did the seventeen drivers who made the tow up from Oklahoma put on a show for the fans but series and race promoter C Ray Hall as well. So much so that once again this year, the southern modified division, known last year as the southern sport mod division, will be competing in this year’s 54th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas this coming Saturday night. The next night the series will head to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas for a 4th of July shootout.

Dustin Buntin of Wheatland, Oklahoma comes into the event as the early season points leader after two races have been completed on the 2010 race schedule. Buntin holds a fifteen point lead over Enid, Oklahoma driver Kevin Snow. Other Oklahoma drivers, who are regulars on the tour, expected to compete include Robert Elliott (Clinton), Brandon Cross (Chandler), Don McConnell (Midwest City), Frank Graven (Cushing), Mike Little (Lawton), Randy Bohnstedt (Hennessey), Todd Decker(Edmond), Kevin Dickson (Mannford), Landon Maddox (Fairview), Tommy Bohnstedt (Hennessey) , Chris Holt (Lawton), Walter O’Dell (Hennessey)and Dakota Moore(Blair). Other drivers having indicated their intentions on competing include Jeff Autry (Tuttle), Bud Longpine (Woodward) and Ross McCartney (Enid).

Amarillo, Texas driver Donny Raney won last year’s Hutchinson Grand Nationals but is not expected to compete this year. It was a race that saw four lead changes throughout the feature finale before Raney finally took control in the final laps to secure the victory.

The series also visited 81 Speedway for their first time at the end of the 2009 race season and it was Autry picking up a last lap pass in that event to take home the victory.

Thus far in 2010, two events have been held on the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified tour with Decker picking up the season opener at Elk Citys I-40 Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma back in March. In the last event held it was Wheatland driver Randy Timms picking up his first career southern modified victory.

The Hutchinson Grand Nationals event will pay $700 to the championship feature winner with drivers making the twenty car field earning $100.

Sunday nights 81 Speedway event will pay the normal $500 to win, $100 to start for the feature finale.

All O’Reilly/NCRA southern modifieds who would like to compete on Friday night may do so in the AAA modified division or drivers will have an open practice session at the track on that night.
