Local Driver Ready to Shine During Huge Three-Day Firecracker 100 on Thursday-Friday-Saturday June 24-25-26!

 

 

 

 

Sarver, PA (June 14, 2010) Over the past few seasons, Gregg Satterlee has become known across the nation as one of the brightest and fastest rising stars in Dirt Late Model Racing. His success at Lernerville Speedway can credited to his pedigree and his insatiable desire to win every race he competes in. It is that desire that will be on display during the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com Three-Day weekend on Thursday-Friday-Saturday June 24-25-26 at Lernerville Speedway!

 

 

 

Uncle Dave Satterlee was one of the best Late Model drivers in Western/Central Pennsylvania throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, winning features at Lernerville Speedway, as well as Marion Center, Dog Hollow and other area tracks. So, like other second generation drivers Jared Miley and Alex Ferree, Gregg Satterlee seemed destined for greatness in the local Late Model ranks. His early success has helped catapult him to success on a bigger stage.

 

 

 

Satterlee frequently travels up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest in search of the best competition in Dirt Late Model racing and higher paying races with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, among others, at tracks like The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Virginia and West Virginia Motor Speedways, Hagerstown and Eldora Speedway.

 

 

 

This past weekend at The Dream, Satterlee timed 26th quick out of 104 cars and, (by virtue of the 5-car invert), started on the pole of his heat. But despite the perfect setup to transfer into the Dream A-Main from the pole of his heat, Satterlee hit the cone on a restart and was sent to the tail.

 

 

 

“The cone deal was my fault completely! We didn’t have my car correct for track conditions and it was so hard to get around the track. I just touched the cone, and for that they sent me to the tail; that was pretty much the end of that!” Satterlee said with a laugh.

 

 

 

He charged back through a loaded heat race but could only muster a 12th place finish. Only the top ten from each heat moved on. So Gregg packed up and headed to Tri-City Speedway to compete in the FASTRAK Crate Late Model portion of their program.

 

 

 

His sights are now locked and loaded on the Lernerville Speedway Mid-Season Championships this Friday Night, June 18 and the Firecracker 100 provisional that comes along with it!

 

 

 

Arguably the biggest win of his Lernerville career to date, last year’s Mid-Season Championship victory was easily one of the most exciting and controversial races in the 40 plus year history of Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway. Satterlee won the feature by passing race leader John Flinner at the flagstand as the checkered flag waved. But his checkered flag pass was just part of the thrilling equation.

 

 

 

In the closing laps, Satterlee was running fourth behind John Flinner, Jared Miley and Alex Ferree. Coming to the checkered flag, Miley tried to a kamikaze slide job on Flinner, resulting in heavy contact. Miley bicycled on two wheels and almost flipped. Flinner sustained moderate damage but maintained the lead. On the restart, Flinner and Alex Ferree made contact in turn two, but a yellow flag on the front stretch, kept the leaders at the front of the second restart.

 

 

 

Flinner got a better jump on the second restart and appeared to be on his way to Sheetz Victory Lane, but looks can be deceiving! As they came to the checkered flag, Satterlee rocketed off the bottom of turn four and pulled even with Flinner. To many fans in attendance, the human eye saw John Flinner win the race, but the transponder reported a narrow victory by Gregg Satterlee, by 0.025 seconds!

 

 

 

The win locked Satterlee into the Firecracker 100 A-Main Feature, but he finished a disappointing 27th place, after completing just 22 laps.

 

 

 

This year, Satterlee hopes to repeat his Mid-Season Championship, but use it as a springboard to a better finish in the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com.

 

 

 

And after originally planning to hit the road with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series for the “Great Northern Tour”, Satterlee has shifted gears and will race locally next weekend in preparation for the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com on Thursday-Friday-Saturday June 24-25-26 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA.

 

 

 

This change in plans will put Satterlee in position to once again lock in a track provisional during the aforementioned Mid-Season Championship, “We really wanted to run the Great Northern Tour again this year, but a few of my guys won’t be able to travel and I really don’t have anyone to go. So I decided to stay at home and hopefully be ready to roll for the Firecracker. Winning the Mid-Season Championship and the track provisional will take a little bit of the pressure off!”

 

 

 

When asked about the exciting, new three-day format of the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com, Satterlee commented, “I think the three-day format is going to make for a really exciting weekend of racing! It’s going to give the guy with a bit of bad luck (like we had at the Dream) a better shot to get in if he has the right car. We are just going to race the first two nights like any other night and hope to put ourselves in good position to qualify for the 100-lapper.”

 

 

 

Gregg’s recent success at Lernerville Speedway would certainly classify him as a favorite Friday Night to lock in the Firecracker provisional. He won five features in 2009, including the Mid-Season Championship. So far at Lernerville Speedway in 2010, in limited action, Satterlee has two feature wins, three National Guard Heat Race wins and four top five finishes. His most recent win came on Friday, May 28 when he held off the advances of fellow 2010 two-time Lernerville Feature winner and World of Outlaws Star Chub Frank.

 

 

 

His Firecracker resume is a mixed bag. He finished 15th in the Uncle Sam 30 during the Inaugural Firecracker 100 weekend in 2007. In 2008, Satterlee finished third in his heat to transfer directly into the Firecracker 100 and was the top local finisher in 16th. As mentioned above, he won the Mid-Season Championship last year and had a provisional for the Firecracker 100, but finished a disappointing 27th.

 

 

 

With a little bit of good luck and a heavy right foot, Satterlee will use the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com as his coming out party to show the Dirt Late Model world that he has arrived as one of the best young shoes in the country!!
