GM paid the loan portion of the stimulus package they received from the fund portion titled incentives from the same stimilus package. It would be the same as you paying off credit card debt with the same credit card. GM announced they paid their bill early which was hogwash the minute the details became known publicly. They did not use earnings to pay the bill, they simply rearranged the stimilus money and gave part of it back saying they paid their bill. Friends I believe if you do the math you will learn that what they paid back was around 12 billion short of what they were given. GMs reported earnings since the stimilus package showed two consecutive fiscal quarters as losing billions so their problems are no where near solved. Also you might consider that GM stockholders who were pretty much left out of the equasion during the talks ended up losing approximately 90% of their share value simply because the government took 60% ownership of GM and gave the UAW thirty percent of the company. Figure it out. 90% loss to shareholders. Two auto manufacturers showed profits during those same two quarters that GM lost money and neither received stimulus payments. One of those was Ford. Check it out, its all available in the news archives of all major newspapers. Taxpayers are still left holding the bag for billions. So Lenny, you are so right.
