National Points Leader Ends GW’s Win Streak

Coming into the nights action for the IMCA Modifieds, GW Egbert was the years only repeat winner after seven events. GW Egbert, who has showed no signs of his year off while serving his country in Iraq, had taken the past wins back to back. The five race Winter Series each had seen a different winner each race, prior to start of the regular season.

In the A-main, 19 of 22 IMCA Modifieds started led to green by George Egbert and Mickey Helms. As green flew Helms jumped out first, but pulled off on the back stretch, with current IMCA points leader, Henry Witt grabbing the lead on lap 1. On lap 3, the newest Egbert Rookie of the year contender, Trevor Egbert got by G. Egbert to move into third, while Rick Green slid into fourth.

Dale Flanagan, one of the Winter Series winners, began to pressure Witt for the lead on lap 4. Lap 5 saw Danny Brown, from row 5, get around Green for fourth, while Flanagan was looking under Witt for the top spot. Flanagan’s chance to be a repeat came to an end on lap 7 when he slowed and pitted. G. Egbert also pulled off on lap 7 while running fourth.

The races only caution flew on lap 8, when three different cars had separate spins in turns 3-4. The restart order had Witt leading T. Egbert, Brown, Steven Whitaker charging up from row 6, Green, Bill Pittaway, Justin Majek, Curt Clegg, GW Egbert and Jason Borlace in the top ten. As green flew, GW Egbert snuck by Clegg for eighth.

At the crossed the flags, Witt was starting to inch away from T. Egbert, Brown, Whitaker and Green. T. Egbert, Whitaker and Brown had their own little battle going on for the second through fourth spot, with both Brown and Whitaker getting past T. Egbert on lap 14. By lap 15, the top seven were running single file, while the back of the pack had another group of seven slugging it out, at times literally.

With three to go Witt had a comfortable margin over Brown and Whitaker. The only thing that would slow Witt down was running up on lap traffic in the final lap as he powered to the win in his Dick Scott Ford/Centex GMC/Midwest Motorsports/Affiliated Auto Glass/Wilson Chassis Co./Bartell Motorsports/Allied Wheels/HOT Chassis

Son, Father Score One-Two Finish

In the 20 lap Limited Late Model feature, polesitter David Boggs got the jump on David Rydl to grab the lead on lap 1. On lap 2 Carl Dyer moved past Rydl for second, while Ziggy Reusser grabbed fourth spot. Cliff Reusser, Ziggy’s dad, brought the yellow for a spin the same lap. On the restart Rydl spun from second, with Ed Forsythe spinning behind him.

Z. Reusser and Lee Johnson both got by Boggs as the green flew again moving Z. Reusser to the front. Boggs retook second from Johnson, with the two making contact sending Boggs spinning to bring out the caution. The restart got ugly as Carl Pitts spun and collected Keith Harris. Forsythe and Johnson had nowhere to go and plowed into the pile.

Boggs spun on his own to slow the action again on lap 7. At the mid point the top five were Z. Reusser, Gary Hunter, C. Reusser, Rydl and David Boudreau. Boggs looked to break something in the front suspension when spun again on lap 10. Shortly after the restart, C. Reusser got by Hunter for second, but son Ziggy was nowhere within shouting distance. With two to go Z. Reusser was still motoring away to grab the checkers by a good distance. Father and son took a victory lap as the rains began to fall, bringing an end to nights racing.

Hi Mr. Hallas. Great job on the race reports, every one you do. There is one correction on this one however. My brother Jason races the 57x, and I (John Kelly Jr) race the #57 purestock. My dad; John Kelly, is one hell of a backup driver though :) Keep up the good work, and thanks for helping these races get coverage.
