(March 13) – IMCA history will be made next weekend at Wild West Speedway, regardless of which drivers race their way to victory lane. Both SportMod classes sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association will be on the same program for the first time, when the Clinton track opens the gates for its Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21 Sooner Roundup special. Features for the Southwest Racing Specialties Southern SportMods and the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods headline both shows, complemented by IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Southern SportMods race for $350 to win on Saturday and for $1,000 in Sunday’s regional event for the class. Top checks for Northern SportMods are $250 on opening night and $400 on Sunday. Hobby Stocks vie for $250 on Saturday and for $300 on Sunday. Trophies go to top four finishers in the first night feature for Sport Compacts; the Sunday winner nets $100. Southern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts are newly sanctioned at Wild West this season and all applicable IMCA points will be awarded. National points will be given for both Northern SportMod events. Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, sign-in ends and the grandstand opens at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, gates open at 11 a.m., sign-in ends and the grandstand opens at 2 p.m., and racing gets underway at 3 p.m. A $25 track registration fee will be charged to each car. The open practice on Friday, March 19 is from 8-11 p.m. Pit passes are $25 each day. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12, with youngsters five and under getting in free.
