Seidler scores round three win in Canyon Winter Challenge Series

PEORIA, Ariz. (Feb. 6) – After third and second place finishes in opening weekend action, Marlyn Seidler stood on the top of the podium Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park.

Seidler led all 30 laps of the Winter Challenge Series main event for IMCA Modifieds, holding off George Fronsman on the final circuit for the $1,000 checkers.

“This has been a good way to start the winter,” said Seidler, far away from the cold and snow in his home state of North Dakota. “We had a little bit better luck this weekend, running second in our heat (behind defending national champion Dylan Smith) and then drawing outside front row for the feature.”

The series point leader passed pole starter Mark Stewart before the first lap was scored and held onto the top spot through a succession of restarts.

Fronsman stayed close and made his run at Seidler on the white flag circuit. Seidler beat his challenger into the final set of turns, however, and motored to the win.

Jason Noll, Jay Foster and Tim Ward followed Fronsman across the finish line, as home state drivers claimed the second through fifth place finishes.

Already qualified for the 2010 All-Star ballot, Seidler counted three wins in Arizona, including a pair at Canyon, during his trip out west last year.

Sunday’s Modified show was rained out. IMCA Modifieds and Southwest Racing Specialties Southern SportMods are on the ticket when the Winter Challenge Series resumes for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13-14 shows.

Racing starts at 1 p.m. both days.

The tour concludes with Feb. 20-21 races for both divisions.
