Green flag flies at Aztec Speedway for

 

AZTEC, N.M. (April 18) – The third annual EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West

Tour for IMCA Modifieds gets the green flag at Aztec Speedway.

 

Feature events are on both Friday and Saturday, April 24-25 programs

during the series’ opening weekend.

 

Pit gates open at noon both days. The drivers’ meeting is at 6 p.m.,

hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Friday. On

Saturday, the drivers’ meeting is at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 5:30

p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m.

 

Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission at Aztec is $11 for adults,

$9 for military and seniors, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and five and

under get in free.

 

Overnight camping, but no RV hookups, will be available. For more

Fourteen events are on the 2009 tour schedule. All races with 40 or

more entries will pay $1,000 to win and double as qualifying events

for the 2009 or 2010 Fast Shafts All-Star invitational ballot.

 

Races with fewer than 40 entries pay $750 to win. National,

ButlerBuilt Western Region, Smiley’s Racing Products State and

special series points will be awarded at all events.

 

Top 10 drivers in final point standings earn shares of a $3,000 point

fund. In addition to tour title sponsor Enginequest, IMCA sponsors

giving contingency awards to series competitors include Brinn

Transmission, BSB Manufacturing, Design 500, Isky, Howards Cams &

Racing Components, KSE, Moser Engineering, Probe Industries, Quick

Time, Racing Optics, Real Racing Wheels, Schoenfeld Headers and The

Joie of Seating.

 

The top 20 drivers in points will also be invited to compete in a

Shootout during the Duel in the Desert special at Las Vegas Motor

Speedway in November.

 

One hundred and twenty-one drivers from 11 states and Canada

qualified for one or more EQ tour features last season. Ricky

Alvarado of Delta, Colo., is the two-time defending series champion.
