Murty Doubles Up With I-Stock Checkers

Polesitter Don Killen grabbed the early lead in the 20 lap IMCA Stock car main. Mike VanGenderen got by Ben Hoesing on lap 2 for fourth as Damon Murty moved into second. Murty, on the high side got along side Killen on lap 3, while VanGenderen moved past JW Johnson for third. Murty crossed over to the low side on lap 4 still trying to find a way past Killen.

Chris Meyers tried to get by Dustin McGaha for fifth on lap 5. Coming to the line to complete lap 7 Killen and Murty were door to door. Murty took the top spot on lap 8 as Meyers grabbed finally got around McGaha. Killen looked inside to get back by Murty on lap 9 but was unsuccessful. At the midway point it was Murty, Killen, VanGenderen, Johnson, Meyers, McGaha and Michael Sams running nearly nose to tail.

Killen grabbed the lead back on lap 11 as he and Murty split a lapped car, three wide. Murty retook the top spot on lap 12, with the lead duo making contact on lap 13. Murty got some breathing room on lap 14 when Killen got into a lap car, allowing VanGenderen to close in. JW Johnson spun from fourth as he made contact with the lap car of JD Berryhill.

Murty got a good jump on the restart as Killen and Vangenderen tried to get by slower cars mixed in with the leaders. As the white flag flew Murty had a three car advatage and would go on to grab the checkers in his PTM/Bidwell Farms/Curt Manatt/J&V Auto/TopNotch Fabricators/Central Iowa Marine/Intimidator Chassis.

Iowan Grabs Hobby Win

Twenty-two cars started the IMCA Hobby Stock feature paced to green by Hans Houfek and Bill Bonnett. The top two stayed side by side in turns 1-2, but Bonnett got the edge to lead lap 1 with Jerry West and Houfek battling for second. Danny Watson brought out the caution on lap 2 with an easy spin this time, after rolling over last night in the B-main.

On the restart the top six separated out until Brandon Holbrook put a slide job on Paul Martin to move into fourth. West was pressuring Houfek for second on lap 7 as Bonnett began inching away. Just before halfway August Bach was looking inside Martin for fifth. Bonnett, Houfek, West, Holbrook and Martin rounded out the top five at halfway.

Holbrook and Martin made slight contact allowing Bach and Richard Collins to close in. Houfek and Bonnett got hung up in traffic letting West catch Houfek with the two side by side for second on lap13. Bonnett then started gapping the battle for second as they continued to be stuck in traffic.

A lap 14 caution for debris bunched the field but the Bonnett had a couple lap cars as buffers. Using traffic to his advantage, Bonnett got a big lead back under green. By the time Houfek cleared traffic, Bonnett had a 1/2 straightaway lead. Bonnett had little trouble from there going on to take the victory in his Terry’s Auto Service/Klien Motors/ Razors Edge Grafix/G&D Auto Electric/Concrete Technology Intimidator Chassis powered a JR Motorsports engine.
