IMCA Stocks

Chris Meyers and Mike VanGenderen paced the 20 car IMCA Stock field to green, with Meyers getting out first. Back in the pack Toby Miller and Charles Brewer got together to bring out the yellow. On the next start, Damon Murty grabbed the lead from row two, while the pack battled two-three wide. VanGenderen got by Meyers on lap 2 for second, with Chad Estes pulling off with a flat a lap later from a top five spot.

2003 IMCA Stock Champion, Duain Pritchett moved into fifth on lap 5, then moved along side Meyers on lap 6 for fourth. By lap 7 Murty had opened up a big lead over VanGenderen, who had a good gap back to Don Killen, Pritchett, Kevin Sustaire and Meyers. At the mid-point the top five were Murty, VanGenderen, Killen, Pritchett and Sustaire.

Pritchett and Sustaire then waged their own little battle as they swapped the position on laps 12-14. With five to go, Killen closed on VanGenderen, with Murty out in the distance. Pritchett took a trip through the infield on lap, while at the same time Sustaire was slowing with a flat. Killen got inside VanGenderen on lap 17 to grab second, but Murty was nowhere in sight. Murty went on to grab the victory in his PTM/Bidwell Farms/Curt Manatt/J&V Auto/Top Notch Fabricators/Central Iowa Marine/Intimidater Chassis.

In The IMCA Hobby Stocks, August Bach and Allen Montgomery led the 20 car field to green. Montgomery got out first, but before the completion of lap 1 Mike Smith and Jerry West made contact with West suffering a flat. On the next start, Montgomery again got the top spot only to have caution fly when Chris Ater and Ed Autenrieth got tangled in turn four. The third time was a charm, only this time it was Bach getting the lead, with a three wide scrap for second.

Bach’s lead was short-lived as Bill Bonnett got past on lap 2 and Paul Martin following him through. Lap 6 had Martin looking inside Bonnett for the lead while Richard Collins and Bach were side by side for third. As Collins got by Bach, he got sideways and collected M. Smith who rolled to a stop on the front stretch. As the race neared halfway Martin again got low on Bonnett, with the duo side by side on lap 9.

At the halfway point Bonnett, Martin, Collins, Bach, and Montgomery rounded out the top five. Bonnett slid high on lap 11 allowing Martin to get the point as Montgomery got past Bach for fourth. With five to go Dillon Smith caught Bach and Motgomery. Bonnett closed back in on Martin for the lead with three to go, and got inside on lap 18 to regain the top spot.

As the white flag flew Martin charged back with the top two door to door at the line. D.Smith grabbed fifth from Montgomery as the took the white. Coming to the checkers it was still anyones race, as they crossed the line it was Martin eking out the win by about a foot in Mean Gene Racing Chassis powered by a JR Motorsports engine.
