rebelracewriter
Lucas Oil ASCS Goes Hollywood with Addition of HHS Double Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 5, 2009) – The Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters goes Hollywood in August. Hollywood Hills Speedway, that is, as the series will invade the New Mexico oval for a two-night stand on the final weekend of August. The lone appearance of the year in the "Land of Enchantment" for the nation's premier touring series is slated for August 28-29, as the ASCS National forces take to the 3/8-mile Hollywood Hills Speedway clay oval for the first time since 2004. Under the managerial auspices of Kevin Montgomery and Benji Lyons, Hollywood Hills Speedway is located in San Felipe Pueblo midway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Working to finalize the track's schedule, Montgomery explains that, "We needed a marquee event to build our schedule around and the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series is exactly what we were looking for." With 25-30 teams already committed to running the entire Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters slate along with the numerous teams throughout New Mexico and the surrounding area, upwards of 50 to 60 entries for the event is a strong likelihood. "Race fans in New Mexico have been anxious to have an event like this for quite a while now, and we're excited to be able to deliver that event by bringing the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series to Hollywood Hills Speedway," Lyons commented. With the addition of the Hollywood Hills Speedway double, the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters is now slated for 34 nights of competition at 16 different tracks throughout the nation. A $250,000 point fund will be doled out among the series' top 15 ranked drivers at season's end, with the champion collecting $60,000. The ASCS National series last visited Hollywood Hills Speedway in July of 2004, when Oklahoma's Darren Stewart swept two nights of action aboard the Bobby Sparks No. 91 entry. Garry Lee Maier and Michael Dupuy split a two-night ASCS National stand in 2002. The Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series kicks off the 2009 season on March 20-21 in Mesquite, TX, with the 36th Annual Devil's Bowl Speedway Spring Nationals, with Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway Spring Nationals on the following weekend (March 27-28).
