Richardson returns to I.M.C.A. regional director’s post

PARIS, Texas (Feb. 26) – Rickey Richardson is off the couch and back in the

saddle, as director of I.M.C.A.’s Dirt Works South Central Region.

“I enjoyed sitting on the couch Saturdays and Sundays, but the phone never

stopped ringing. Somebody was always calling to talk about racing,” said

Richardson, director for the eastern half of the region through the 2000 and

2001 seasons. “I decided the time was right to do this again.”

If he succeeds in juggling an earlier commitment, Richardson will be on the

job this weekend for the Icebreaker and Sunday Special events at Abilene

Speedway.

“When I resigned from this job two years ago, it was because of my family,”

he said. “My wife Michele is very supportive of this decision and our kids are

old enough now (ages 11, 4 and 1) that they can travel with us once in a while.

The neatest thing about this job is that we’ll all get to do something

together.”

As director of the region, which includes all of Texas and northern and

western Louisiana, Richardson will represent I.M.C.A. at weekly and special

events, answering questions about rules, procedures and tech inspection, and

serving as a liaison of sorts between the sanctioning organization and its

promoters and drivers.

He’s got first-hand experience on both sides of the racing fence, having

competed in the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified division for six years and later

promoting at Paris Motor Speedway.

“With his background in racing, Rickey has the ability to do everything we

need him to in the Dirt Works South Central Region,” I.M.C.A. Vice President of

Operations Brett Root said. “All of our regional directors positions are very

important and Rickey is a perfect addition. We’re glad to have him back.”
