Yes he did, but he isn't running this year. Unfortunately, even though McFarland is on this list and has paid an entry, he will not be running. He has sold his hauler and trailer, so he will not be running. This is a list of everyone who has actually paid entries, but every year, a few are unable to make it for one reason or another.

Thats going to be tough. Just think you would have to make it in the top half of the field just to get in.

The Mods may be the same way. I think there was about 55 of those last year if I'm not mistaken.

Any potential surprises?

I've seen it get down late before Gill's name showed up; He would have to be with a different owner, though.

I would, however like to see Cale Gale and Johnny Brazier there, and I think Ronnie Sanders has finally called it a career.

Clay Rogers, Mader, Cassius Clark, Wallace, Campbell, Menard, Travis Kittle, Corey Williams, Ricky Turner, Hogan/Busch, ........etc.

I also hope the SEC Championship game (Bama/Fla.) doesn't affect the Snowflake crowd too much, but I bet it will. Come to think of it, I bet there will be plenty of hangovers on Sunday, too.

Rogers and Gill only ran latemodels in the Snowball and those cars have been sold by the owner. Mader hasn't ran all year. The car he was driving has been parked all year. Wallace drove for Richie Wauters, and I guess he isn't coming back. Wauters has one of his Truck drivers, Shane Sieg driving his car. Menard and Kittleson haven't been here in a couple years,Corey Williams has never been to the Snowball, Ricky Turner hasn't raced in over 2 years, Hogan never runs at Five Flags, Busch has both of his cars seats filled, and he'll be at the banquet. I'm hearing he will be here on Sunday to watch his cars run. Cassius Clark has moved to N Carolina for now, and they didn't have enough in their budget to run it this year.Chris Gabehart was going to enter after the Georgia race, but he tore his car up. Brian Campbell didn't have a motor ready. Rich Bickle and Chris Wimmer contacted the track about running, but their motors are not in the rules. There are several who have never been in the Snowball like Johnny VanDoorn, Alex Haaase, Brian Ickler, Ryan Preece etc that will take the place of some of those mentioned. With the economy in such bad shape I was worried that the car count might be way down, but it looks like it will only be down slightly. The drivers that run or don't run always go through phases. There are fewer Northern drivers this year, and I think that has something to do with the expense and the poor economy. JMO

I see the words scanner list on this thread....... Is there a offical scanner list for the drivers listed?

Go to greatlakesfreq.com and go to the "specials" link. Look for Blizzard Series or Snowball Derby. Also look through CRA Series frequencies.

Steve - My point in listing the drivers was just that alot of the bigger-name drivers that have run in the recent past are not running this year. Still good number of cars, just not as much "star power." But then, likely some of these guys will be the big names in a few years.

Keith,

You can also get a scanner list from the Radio truck that will be in the parking lot near the grandstand entrance.

They usually charge 5 dollars, and you get a free update when the fields are set.

See ya down there,

Tom

Danny, Yes I agree that many of these will be the big names in a few years. I'm hoping that more of the Northern drivers will come next year if the economy improves. Atleast gas prices are much better! As usual, not all of these paid entries will show up for whatever reason. I'm looking for 52-55 Snowball and 65-70 Snowflake. Many enter real early and then can't make it.

Snowball........Do you know who bought all of Ken McFarlands equipment? I guess since B.I.R. is closed that this might have had something to do with him selling everything since B.I.R. is his home track....................I have heard that Birmingham Int. Raceway will run one more farewell race in February before it is torn down.................Very, very, sad.

I saw on Speed51 that Johnny Van Doorn has withdrew from the Derby. I was looking forward to watching this guy race. He is a very heavyhitter from the midwest............What about Chris Gabehart? Did he get his car repaired from the crash at South Georgia yet? Sure hope he makes it down to the Derby. He was awesome up at the AA400 in Nashville last month.

Yeah, that sucks about Vandoorn. I talked to Tim Steele who owns the car today, and he said that the economy caused his sponsor to backup some on the funding. The economy is the main reason that the Northern driver contingent is down some. As far as Gabehart goes, I'm a little surprised about the article in Speed51 aboput him running, because i thought he wasn't. I guess we'll find out come Wednesday or Thursday! I sure do hope that he runs. Either way, it will still be one heck of a field though!
