Late Models at Saratoga

Nueces Power Equipment and Farm Supply of the Corpus Christi area has formed an alliance with Saratoga Speedway to bring as many as six late limited late model shows to the 1/4 mile dirt facility beginning March 22. The rules for the series can be obtained by contacting Saratoga promoter, Michael Carlock at 361-767-7676.

At present there are as many as 18 cars anticipated to be generally in compliance with the rules. One of the six races will pay $1000 to win but it will not be the first one. Everyone involved is aware of the recent demise of the late model in the area and this can only be seen as a gallant cooperative effort to round up what is left or has been converted to other classes and to bring them back. The size of the field of cars at the first event will be a good indication of what is to come. Carlock will also provide the purse payout for each event.

The object will be to get as many caars as possible and perhaps even refine the rules to allow for expansion without requireing a great amount of change to existing cars.

In April of 1996 South Texas Speedway ( Now Saratoga) had grown the class to as many as 16 regular cars each Saturday night and in the middle of April of 1996 brought the SUPR late models for a one night show. Thirty cars tried to make the 24 car starting field with nine of the Coprpus area cars making it. A subsequent date in October of that year was cancelled by new management. It would be great if anyone and everyone interested could use this forum to give Saratoga officials a good idea of owner, driver and fan support and involvement. Please respond and spread the word.

There will be no increase in admission. Spectators can bring their own alcoholic beverages in their own coolers with a 14 inch max cooler. Sspeedway officials ask that there be no glass.

Trust me, Armond Payne at Hill Country knows what he is doing. He seems to be leaning toward Extreme (UDTRA) type cars and there is no doubt he can get a date for one of the premier late model series. I am sure as things go along more discussions will be had
