rebelracewriter
And this ain't good for the sport! check this out
tqj3
As many as 32 of the 42 cars going into the last ten races under the current system are already losers, gang. When was the last time a driver in 11th in points with ten races to go won the title? Sure, now they have a chance to move up, maybe into the top six or so. But I think NASCAR is doing two things, and one is to go after the NFLs TV ratings. As I've said before, when any other racing organization becomes as successful as NASCAR, maybe I'll listen to them. So far, though, NASCAR is still king; and the marketers just might find out at the end of the season that everyone got more bang for their NASCAR bucks. If it doesn't work, an organization that changes its rules on a weekly basis (something a lot of people also said would never work) can surely change or adapt the points system. Heck, this is the fourth or fifth time they've done it...
rebelracewriter
Whether it's just a percieved issue or not, if sponsors start pulling their money, that's not good!
txtom
Here is a scenario. Sept 11, 2004. Richmond night race has just ended. Nascar has set it's field for the run to the Nextel Cup. Sitting in 11th place is Dale Jarrett, 402 point out of first. (Remember, you gotta be within 400 points of First). Sitting in 12th is Mark Martin, 405 out of the lead. Wonder what Brian France will have to say to UPS and Viagra, who are among the top level in NASCAR sponsorship. Here is an interesting read: Entertainment?? "NASCAE"--"National Association of Stock Car Auto Entertainment" I'll see ya'll at a short-track RACE somewhere.........
racerjim2
so is NASCAR changing their acronym to WWFNASCAE raw...LOL
tqj3
Yeah, Txtom, that's a terrible scenario. Here's another one: a sponsor's driver wins eight races and loses the title by a mile to a guy who won one race all year. Oh, yeah, that's what happened this year. Do you suppose we'd all be complaining about that, and wondering why NASCAR didn't do something, if they hadn't done something?
wkr77
I like it...The title race was boring in 2003, and it won't be in 2004...Tim
rebelracewriter
REALLY NOW.....What about the other two NA$CAR series that, by the way USED THE SAME POINTS SYSTEM, and came down to the final race and/or final laps!!!??? Any way you try to "spin" it(pun intended) if sponsors bail, NA$CAR is history!!
MUmscheid 51
alright my .02 cents lets say sitting in 11th 402 points back is someone that takes all there earnings and puts food on the table at home. 10 races left in the season and lets say hell freezes over and they ein the next 10 races. now they cant get any higher in points and the check at the banquet in November will be smaller than what they actually would earn. also since they will be outa the running for the top ten or whatever but there teammate is in that percentile dont you think some team strategy will be played at the end of the season? let me know what you think

ChuckLicata
by the way i cant stand it Really, Michael? I couldn't tell... p.s.--I agree with you, I don't like this particular points system. I think it's good to change, but this one needs a lot of "fine tuning"
MUmscheid 51
yes it is fine for a change in nascar....it is fine for a show......but the TRUE racecar drivers know if someone works there butt off and manages to aquire a big lead they should be rewarded not punnished. so whatever
tqj3
Yeah, it is kind of like letting everyone qualify, then penalizing the fast drivers and teams who worked their tails off to get their setup right by putting the fast cars at the back. Oh, right. We do that, too, don't we?
