rebelracewriter Posted February 4, 2004 Report Share Posted February 4, 2004 For Immediate Release Contact Bill Martin Feb. 3, 2004 (319) 472-2201, x225 Abilene Speedway opens season with racing tripleheader ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 3) – The Ice Breaker special headlines a racing tripleheader that opens the 2004 race season for I.M.C.A.-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks at Abilene Speedway. Feature races for all three divisions are on the card for the Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28 Ice Breaker and for the Sunday Race special on Feb. 29. Modified features will pay $500 to win, with Stocks running for $300 to win and Hobby Stocks $250 to win each evening. Drivers will draw for heat race starting positions each day. National, Texas state and local track points will be awarded in all three divisions. Modifieds also vie for Dirt Works South Central Region points and Stock Cars compete for Destroyer Chassis Southern Region or Northern Region points. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps are at 5:30 p.m., the draw closes at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, gates open at 3 p.m., hot laps are at 5 p.m., the draw closes at 6 p.m. and the first heat is at 7 p.m. Following a 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, pit gates open at 11 a.m., hot laps are at 11:30 a.m. and the draw ends at 12:30 p.m., with racing at 1 p.m. The Ice Breaker is presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. Danz Designs is sponsor of the Sunday Race program. Non-sanctioned sprint cars are also on the card Friday through Sunday. Pure stocks and junior mini-stocks run the first two nights only. Pit gates open at 11 a.m. and practice sessions at the track are from noon-4 p.m. Sundays Feb. 15 and 22. Another practice night is set for 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. Gates open at 5 p.m. that afternoon.
