SASPEEDRACER24
During the SAS practice session there was a black mustang with a considerable amt. of offset to the Driver side. Just curious how much offset are the TPS cars allowed to have and which cars are allowed to do this. This car looked like it was Steve Fosters old car but I can't be sure? Onle thing for certain he sure looked fast.
NickHolt
Marc, Good question, dude! The TPS rules allow everything from an offset fabricated chassis to a completely stock chassis. If you run a stock chassis you get to run 58% leftside weight and get a 5% weight break, but if you run a fabricated frame, you can only run 55% leftside weight and get no weight break. By the way, an air-cooled VW gets a 15% weight break which is one of the reasons that Randy Larsen's red Karmann Ghia runs up front. Since one of the primary advantages of running an offset chassis is to gain leftside weight, the TPS rules take away most, if not all, of that advantage. Under these weight rules in 2002 we saw Randy Lee's championship Mustang (with at a stock chassis) run side by side with Leroy Farmer's Mustang (with an offset tubular chassis) at both Thunder Hill Raceway and San Antonio Speedway. And yes, that car was Steve Foster's 2002 TPS ride which was bought by Jack Dishman of Devine. As you know, Steve is moving up to the ROMCO SLM series this season.
