rebelracewriter Posted August 19, 2008 Report Share Posted August 19, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, August 18, 2008 O'REILLY USMTS SOUTHERN SERIES RETURNS TO LONE STAR STATE FOR DOUBLEHEADER THIS WEEKEND BEAUMONT, Texas (Aug. 18) – After a 76-day summer vacation, the O'Reilly USMTS Southern Series returns to action this weekend with a doubleheader in the Lone Star State. On Friday, Aug. 22, the O'Reilly USMTS Southern Series returns to the where they kicked off the 2008 season with an encore event at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. Veteran Modified ace Howard Willis of Dayton picked up the season-opening win back in April by holding off Westville, Okla.'s Jason Hughes. Since then, Hughes has racked up a series-high five victories and sits atop the points standings with 14 races in the books and 10 to go. On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Series moves on to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for another $2,000-to-win contest. The April event at Gator was won by Steve Holzkamper of Gentry, Ark., who is second in the rankings, 86 markers behind Hughes (1,295 to 1,209). Tommy Weder Jr. is third in the O'Reilly USMTS Southern Series standings with 1,141 points, followed by John O Whittington (985), Paul White (958), Dereck Ramirez (905), Brandon Kenny (895), Shane Hebert (890), Bryan Rowland (873) and Dustin "Tater" Hyde (846). Others expected for this weekend's titanic two-fer include Jamie Burford, Rodney Sanders, David Mitchell, Morgan Bagley, Scott Green, Timothy Culp, Steven Whiteaker Jr., Jeremy Ross and many more. Each of the April shows attracted more than 60 competitors. At both events, pit gates will open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps begin at 6:30 and the first heat race is at 7 p.m. The Golden Triangle Raceway Park is a 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval located 9.5 miles west of I-10 on US 90 (SSR). The Gator Motorplex is a 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval located off I-45 to Shepherd Hill (Exit 98), then east, then 1.4 miles south on SR 75. The American Racer KK704 is the Official Tire of the USMTS; drivers may use the Hoosier G60 but will not earn points or be eligible for contingency awards. Qualifying will be done by heat race passing points and Real Racing Wheels "B" Mains. Draw for heat race starting spot ends 15 minutes before hot laps start. Roll bar padding plus a window net or arm restraints are required. Aluminum heads are legal, but must have 25 lbs. in front of motor plate. Total weight rule is 2,400 lbs. TOP DOG BONUS: Drivers ranked among the top-10 in points will be guaranteed a minimum of $300. Drivers ranked 11th through 15th will earn a minimum of $200. Driver must have perfect attendance in the O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series to be eligible. LICENSES: There is no requirement to purchase a USMTS license to compete in any USMTS event. However, benefits enjoyed by licensed drivers includes higher event purses and bonus payouts, increased tow money, discounted entry fees, contingency awards, points funds, provisional starting spots, increased media recognition, a personalized driver profile page at www.usmts.com and more. The cost of a license is $200 for the O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series. ENTRY FEES: Pre-entry is $90 for non-licensed drivers or $80 for drivers with a USMTS license.
