(July 28) – A $5,000 top prize awaits the winner of this weekend’s F&M Insurance IMCA Modified Shootout at Thomas County Speedway. Set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1-2, the special does triple duty as a 2009 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying and Larry Shaw Racing Blood, Sweat and Tears Series event. Twenty-six cars will start the feature, with a minimum of $200 paid to qualify. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the card for opening night, with IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running on Saturday. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded in the three sanctioned divisions. Pit gates at Colby open at 3 p.m. Friday, hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. On Saturday, gates open at 2 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids 6-12, with five and under getting in free. Pit passes are $25. Rain date is Aug. 3.
