Lewerke borrows ride, leads flag to flag

for Big Dog Dakota Tour win at Williston

WILLISTON, N.D. (July 9) – Rich Lewerke saw his luck turn on night

four of the Big Dog Chassis Dakota Classic Tour.

Lewerke borrowed Robbie Haines’ backup car, won his heat race and

drew the pole start, then led all 30 laps of Wednesday’s series

feature for IMCA Modifieds at Williston Basin Speedway.

The 2006 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals champion pocketed

$1,200 for the victory. The fourth different winner in as many tour

events will also be added to the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts

All-Star Invitational.

Lewerke crashed on opening night at Minot, then followed with 21st

and 22nd place finishes before turning things around. Tuesday winner

Will Brack was the runner-up, followed by Marlyn Seidler, new point

leader Mike Hansen and Troy Heupel.

Heupel, Brack and Hansen all took turns in second before bang-bang

yellows slowed the pace on lap 12.

The last 19 laps ran caution free. While the lower line had taken on

rubber, Hansen gambled by moving up on the track in his bid to catch

Lewerke and fell behind Brack and then Seidler as a result.

The frontunners began negotiating lapped traffic on lap 25 and

Lewerke continued to lead the way through the back runners.

Steve Pfeifer won his “B” feature, started 13th and finished sixth.

Robert Hellebust started last in the field of 24 and ended in 10th.

Nathan Burke won for the third time in five IMCA Sunoco Stock Car

outings to wrap up the Dakota Track Side Classic Series crown at

Williston.

Burke started the 25-lapper from the pole and led the distance,

taking the $500 checkers ahead of Josh Sattler, Kody Scholpp, Jeremy

Sorenson and Chandler Lemar.

The only caution came with four laps to go. Two-time tour winner

Randy Fyllesvold was sixth.

Burke’s share of the $1,000 tour point fund is $250.

Two series events remain for the Modifieds, on Thursday at Southwest

Speedway in Dickinson and Friday at Mandan’s Dacotah Speedway.

Along with a berth on the ballot for the 2009 Fast Shafts All-Star

Invitational, the Modified champion nets $500 of the $2,000 point fund.

Fifty-five Modifieds and 22 Stocks vied Wednesday at Williston.
