rebelracewriter
Berry best in opening night show for Big Dog Dakota Classic Tour MINOT, N.D. (July 6) – A last-lap pass made Hank Berry first at the finish in the Sunday opener of the Big Dog Dakota Classic Tour for IMCA Modifieds at Nodak Speedway. Berry went to the high side to get around long-time leader Steve Pfeifer for the victory and earn a spot on the ballot for the 2009 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational along with a $1,200 check. Aaron Turnbull stayed close to the checkers in finishing third, while Troy Heupel and Robert Hellebust rounded out the top five. Both Turnbull and Hellebust qualified for the main event from “B” features. Turnbull moved up 11 spots from where he started while Hellebust advanced 15 positions. Cautions slowed the start of the 30-lapper. David Murray Jr. went off the track to bring out the second early yellow, then re-started at the rear and raced all the way back to sixth. Stacey Wilhelm ran in front the first two circuits before gave way to Wayne Johnson. Pfeifer took charge on lap nine. Berry, also a winner at Nodak in late May, made his way into contention from inside row five. Hometown drivers Nathan Burke, Robby Rosselli and Kelly Henderson were joined by Jason Storbakken in a four-wide fight over top honors in round two of the Dakota Track Side Series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Burke finally found away around Rosselli for the $500 win. Fifty-four Modifieds from seven states and two Canadian provinces, and 27 Stock Cars were in the pits for the Nodak show. Both divisions are in action Tuesday at Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway, and July 8 and 9 at Williston Basin Speedway. Modifieds run at Southwest Speedway in Dickinson on July 10 before their 19th annual series concludes July 11 at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan. Feature results Modifieds – 1.
