rebelracewriter
For Immediate Release Contact Bill Martin Jan. 10, 2004 (319) 472-2201, x225 New promoter has high goal at Kennedale Motor Speedway KENNEDALE, Texas (Jan. 10) – New promoter Bill Burrows has a lofty goal for Kennedale Motor Speedway. “We want to see this become the best dirt track in Texas,” said Burrows, who had helped build the facility and took over operations at the quarter-mile track late last year. “We want to take this track to the next level.” “I’ve been involved in racing all my life and always wanted to see a track where all the drivers were treated fairly,” he added. “We’ll do that, and we’ll run this track like a business, not like a weekend hobby.” Two hundred truckloads of “the best black gumbo dirt there is” have been added to the racing surface, Burrows said, increasing the banking and creating additional grooves in the corners. Drainage has already been reworked throughout the facility, a fence has been put up around the pit area and bleachers have gotten a new coat of paint. Permanent restrooms have also been built in the pits. Future projects will include a partial awning over the grandstand and VIP suites. I.M.C.A.-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will return to regular Saturday night programs at the former Kennedale Speedway Park, along with non-sanctioned street stocks and bombers. Opening night is scheduled for March 20, with I.M.C.A. points races running through Sept. 25. “What got us interested in I.M.C.A. in the first place are the rules, especially the engine claim rule,” Burrows stated. “I’ve seen too many classes price themselves out and go away.” The son of well-known racer Robert Burrows, Bill began his own on-track career in go-karts and has competed in full-bodied cars ranging from bombers to winged modifieds. “Everyone’s excited about the upcoming season,” he said. “The track is looking pretty good.”
